hahaha, I agree, but knowing me I'll still not get the packaging right. I was actually thinking about a simple project like this to hone up on my c++ skills and Qt/madde packaging.

Dariu5, What Temperature is that? internal or external? Either it's fairly hot where you are or your system is running quite cool.

And that light meter widget, I had an issues installing it. are there some un-specified dependencies?

Temperature is from internal sensor near battery. During intensive use it raises to 45 C.

To make a separate app for this it will need to do a few things: -

1. You start the app, and point the N900 away from you (to where the SLR lens will be pointing)
2. The lightmeter does its job
3. You then need to press a button (the camera button?) or tap the screen to freeze the reading
4. The display then shows the reading and the appropriate aperture / shutter combination

Expanding this further: -
5. The lightmeter could take an average of several reading (maybe an audible beep when a suitable average obtained).
6. A long term goal could be to include a database of cameras and lenses so the program could know what apertures are available from a particular lens.

This could be a really useful app for an SLR user like myself!!

Hi,
I wrote down an app based on your specifications.
Touching the LCD-style numbers you can set the exposure parameters. If you set the aperture value, speed will be calculated, and vice versa. The LCD-style numbers give you only values permitted by your camera/lens. You can easily add your camera/lens parameters in the files camera.conf and lens.conf in /opt/lightmeter, then you can select them using the settings menu option.
In the package you'll find only the Nikon D80 and a 16-85 Nikkor lens in the .conf files.
To store the actual exposure you can use the three "memory" buttons.
I tested it briefly, it works for me, but consider it as stable as extras-devel apps.
I'll wait for you feedback.

and how exactly do i add spec of lenses? where do i download them ?

See the camera.conf and lens.conf files in the package, it's easy to add new sections. I took the supported values from my camera.
