[ANNOUNCE] cuteTube-QML - A feature-rich YouTube client
 

I am happy to announce the initial release of cuteTube-QML, the QML re-write of cuteTube.

UPDATE

Version 1.3.3 is now available for Maemo5, which fixes the YouTube playback/download error. The Debian package is available from http://ubuntuone.com/1gEBsr5FJIlRh4ZN0GXfAk

Exceptional work!

After searching for a video (in the results screen), if there aren't a lot a load of videos, it will scroll past the last one and the empty space will be focused.

Nice job, it mostly works really well. Missing fatures I found so far were the inability to sort the serach result by date, views etc. and not being able to search users videos. Also the program crashes when you scroll down to the end of a videolist.

EDIT: it doesn't seem to always crash, but sometimes it does, and not always when scrolling down a videolist, it's a bit random

Quick question:
Does this fix the bug that won't verify your YouTube account info? Original app didn't want to sign-in due to verification of account not working, yet my info is all correct.

I can´t see my subscriptions or my favourites. No videos found is the respone when clicked. I have logged in with my Gmail account.
Have I missed something?

Hope you manage to get an internal player to work with it.
I liked that with the CT-app
But I know there where some problems in QT with the player.

here is somthing interesting.. now that google have youtube or vice versa and you can sign into ur youtube account with eith your youtube id or mail id, if i login with gmail i get no saved or uploaded videos, but if i log in with my youtube account i get all my vids. there both linked accounts too so i cant see how this happens

@Acidspunk (nice name by the way) It didn't appear for me at first. Go to terminal
sudo gainroot
apt-get update

Then search again in repos and it should be there.

@marxian. I can't seem to play any videos. It starts media player, says connecting, then I get the notification banner pop up and say "unable to play media. Video codec not supported" I have extra decoders installed and have tried 8 different videos?
Also, I have downloaded a video, but where does it save to as default? It's not on my memory card or MyDocs folder.
By the way, the videos I tried work in original cutetube.
Do I need to download anything else to make this work properly for me?

Nice work Marxian.

One little suggestion: the search icon is too tiny while, for most users I think, it would be the most used feature. I really prefer the layout of the old version with the big icon for search in the home screen.

In non full screen mode, could it be possible to show the back button in top right and menu options in the application menu instead of over the screen as in the full screen mode? And, could you add a setting to start in full screen or not?

A really great app, especially the UI!!! Gosh it is so cool, although everything except MENU,BACK,EXIT and 4 buttons(My channel, Most recent, most viewed and archive) could be bigger: search, settings, and about screen. Just a bit. but everything else is great!

Hi, I have cutetube v 0.9.10-5, but this new cutetube-qml doesn't show up as an upgrade to the old version, it shows up as a different app altogether, also there is no icon, am i correct or am i doing something wrong?

Wow. Just, wow. I'm blown away by this new UI. I think it brings a lot of added functionality.

I also enjoy the decision to use Maemo's own Media Player, although I know for you Marxian its a temporary solution. I just feel that Maemo's Media Player perfrorms well and I think I'm getting videos to play faster on it.

So I for one would like CuteTube to have the option to use an external player. :)

The package shouldn't depend on Kmplayer as its use is optional.

Apologies if this is a daft question but is it necessary to have a google/youtube account (and log in) to view content with either version of cuteTube?

Very promising app!

It worked at first, but now media player tells me codec not supported...
Neither reboot or reinstall solved this issue. Tried high and mobile quality.
KMplayer also does not work...any ideas anyone whats wrong here?

Just thought i'd let you know, that whatever that cutetube qml update did, it fixed it on my phone. I can now view videos fine. Thanks. Great looking app. I can now give it a good testing. Thanks for all your hard work getting this done.

This happened to me, but never worked at all. There should be an update, which has now fixed it for me. Try an update in app manager. That should do it.

I have now removed the dependency on kmplayer for version 0.2.17. :)

There's also a couple of bug fixes:

1. Fixed crashing when cancelling downloads.

2. Incomplete downloads are now restored to queue when launching the application.

The stock player discards some useful error messages.
dbus-monitor --session | grep -A 7 error
You should get something with mafw in it, an error, a number, and a string containing details about the error.

I used a hidden folder to prevent the tracker from doing its business every time a download finishes. I may add an option in the settings, the only problem being that the file chooser plugin for QML is limited in functionality. I can extend it, but I have a few other things to implement first.

I haven't changed any code relating to video playback from the initial 0.2.15 release. Also, the same URL is retrieved as per the latest version of the 'old' cuteTube, so I'm not sure why you're experiencing playback issues. I've played a few videos just now and everything is fine for me.

Not yet, but I will be steadily adding the missing features over the coming days/weeks. :) I wanted to start from the point of having a clean UI, rather than throw everything in all at once.
