N9 and N950 scams on eBay (was: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..)

Since they started to give out N950 developers devices I thought I would see them appear on ebay soon enough and been doing searches for a while now and come up with nothing.

But just this morning I searched again and I found this link:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MESOX:IT

The guy's got the N9 up there but also has an N950 in his other items, link is here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MESELX:IT

Is this real? I am tempted (for the N950 of course). It does make sense that some N950s would end up on ebay but this soon? i'm not sure. He has sold some of them already so the buyers either found something trustworthy about this seller or are very stupid. I don't know

What do you guys think? Should I order one, I'm really starting to miss my N900.. but I don't want to be scammed, is it worth the risk?

I don't have much else to say actually.

Re: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..

The N950 is not given to developers, its loaned to them.
If anyone sells one, I'm pretty sure Nokia (and their lawyers) would have something to say about it:

Undoubtedly because it puts the date at which you'd know to complain past paypal's "you're screwed" date.

I guess I was being way too optimistic. Ah well will wait for the N9 then!

Re: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..

Previous items sold do not include any phones, just video game stuff. He has however purchased a couple housings for an n900 one gold and one white.

Also
"This is a worldwide offer and I will guarantee free delivery of this phone anywhere in the world by the 19th of September or your money back"

By then its bye bye cash. Paypal won't touch it with a brick after soo long and you should not either!

n950 preorder on ebay... scam?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nokia-N950...item415b45f7b5

Read the blurb - in particular the explanation of how he is getting these devices - my gut feeling is scam - what do others think?

From the description:

I know Nokia said they wouldn't give a Warranty with this phone, but what this means is a Warranty for repairs and services. They will just replace it out straight. So if you do have any problems with the device, Nokia have no time to spend in repairing it, they will issue a replacement immediately.

Good luck to anyone returning one of these for an 'immediate replacement'.

I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial barge pole, however: a) wow, 13 sold already and b) only 7 sold on his/her N9 listing.

Re: n950 preorder on ebay... scam?

That's quite the scam. Get it from official retailers or sources only.

He hasn't sold any. He's had 13 requests, 12 of which are going to be very disappointed. (That's if he has been accepted for the developer device).

He doesn't even know if he's going to get any. And I'm sure Nokia would have some sort of clause in the developer qualification contract to prevent the re-sale of these devices?

someone should just report this to ebay

Re: n950 preorder on ebay... scam?

Until people calm the fvck down and buy the device from a legit distribution channel,

Mods: Please combine this, with the other gazillion "is this N9/50 eBay sale a scam?", and "don't buy from this eBay seller, it's a scam!" -threads that will be popping up in the next few weeks.

Yeah, my surprise was a) that he had that many (or any) and b) the relative "popularity" of the two devices.

Re: n950 preorder on ebay... scam?

I know its a scam but
"I have a business verified PayPal account, with all limits lifted. This is the most vigorous verification PayPal does and I have passed it and all its security checks. So rest assured, you are dealing with a legitimate businessman. If after this you still have concerns, just send me a message and I will be happy to address your issues within the hour."
Business verification is not easy and holds certain gurentees in addition to normal account you have to provide:-
Supplier invoices.
Photo ID.
Proof of address
When your business turnover increases.
Still a scam but a very ilaborate one.

the way i feel is as follows;

if you, as an individual, feel that this is a scam, simply do not participate in it.

follow your instincts, no need to be gossip girls.

i, for one, bought one. the exposure is minimal at 350e and the deadline is august 29th.

we will see how it goes

tele 2011-07-02 18:19

Re: n950 preorder on ebay... scam?

its a scam!! because paypal and ebay only protect you for a month starting from the date of purchase

those people who bought it today and only protected until 2nd August. After this there is no way that you can get your money back! and hes saying he will post it on 29th August! no one will be protected by ebay or paypal by that time

clearly a trap..

Surely any responsible community will warn it's members of the presence of anyone wishing to take advantage of them. It's one of the things that gives meaning to the term 'community'.

I know considering he actually says you may remember me from selling N8's and such previously. If the guys that have already bought one actually checked his selling history you will see the only thing he has ever sold were maps for a game and a howto get rich playing roullete scam for £300 which the buyer made a complaint about.
Still if you have more money than sense go for it..

I also made a report to EBAY, not that they usually care in my experience.

Is he just saying all that to you or have you verified his paypal status and what it really means, etc?

Cause if he's just saying that, then I also am on the similar paypal tier as him and I DO have an n950 to sell you.

Just sayin' ;)

Re: N9 and N950 scams on eBay (was: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..)

The only doubt i can have is that he is registered at 2005, that a long time to build up a scam.....

And for the record, if i had the money, i would not buy it like this, toooo risky......

And as far as i know only developers can get it... maybe nokia will investigate....

Re: N9 and N950 scams on eBay (was: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..)

Per eBay rules, these listings violate policy.

"If you want to sell presale items, be sure to meet all of the following criteria:

Guarantee that the item will be available for shipping within 30 days from the purchase date. Be sure to clearly state this information in your listing."
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/pre-sale.html

The ship date is way too far out from the purchase date.

But you don't claim to have more than 10 available for sale. ;)

Re: N9 and N950 scams on eBay (was: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..)

Bottom line is if he has "sold" 13 of these things, as claimed, then he's made €4450 already. It's easy to create a fake feedback report too.
Got a bunch of mates, relatives, family pets etc to make false purchases, say they are happy with the end result......... Robert's your fathers brother, he's a highly trustrd dealer.
Google his name and you'll find he's sold other things totally unrelated.

I did report someone last year for listing "Genuine N900" mobile phones (the Chinese one's I must add) He'd evev listed the specs of the genuine N900 but added dual sim capabilityy

Sad fact is, despite everyones best efforts there's still a few spineless individuals out there that still try it on.

Often an old and reputable ebay acct is compromised due to weak/reused password or phishing scam. Then the bad guys puts some ridiculous auctions with high price itmes like phones and laptops, to generate $1000's in a few days, and off they go to their next hacked account.

Re: N9 and N950 scams on eBay (was: [Fake or Real?] Nokia N9 here..)

I ordered one of these yesterday then after reading these forums decided it was a bad idea. I emailed the guy a lot of questions before purchasing and he seemed genuine, I found the phone when looking for an N9 I found this website http://www.gomonews.com/ebayer-comes...go-developers/, then finding he had N950s.

In the end I asked for and have received a refund, the clincher for me was the timings re: the paypal/ebay rules on dates and the fact it seems devs only get a loan of an N950?

Perhaps if it is a scam he would not have so easily refunded the money, or perhaps it was easier for him to keep me sweet as I would have raised a dispute.
