http://maemo.org/news/announcements/...anish_weekend/

The Maemo and Mozilla projects are organizing a joint developer camp in Copenhagen the last weekend of May. If you are working on Fennec, Fennec add-ons and Maemo 5 applications this call is for you! The meeting is open and free, although registration is needed for planning purposes.

WHEN
May 30-31 + Friday night party (29th).

WHERE
IT University of Copenhagen, easily accessible and conveniently located
between the airport and the city center. There will be a hall + 3 rooms
for hacking and an auditorium for presentations (follow the link above
for map and pictures).

WHAT
This hands-on developer meeting is all about getting software ready for
end users. Both Fennec and Maemo 5 will be in beta stage and approaching their final releases. Code, test, fix, improve... and have fun!

Focus areas:
  • Fennec add-ons.
  • Mozilla core development common to Fennec and the Maemo browser.
  • Maemo applications: Fremantle Stars + other community projects willing to join.
  • Mer, aka the Maemo 5 community edition for N810/N800.

Check http://wiki.maemo.org/MozillaMaemoDanishWeekend to know more about the Danish Weekend schedule and to get additional information. See you there!

Good news! Consider to make possible for user to click on .ics so they can easily add to agenda. Have this published on Maemo.org under the announcement, and also have an agenda specific subsite. In current design it'd fit on the right of the website I'd say. Or even allow subscribtion over WebDAV. Here is an example of .ics (must unzip it first since .ics not allowed to upload). This is also great for other events, and in the future, perhaps even deadlines. Ofcourse approx still means approx. Especially useful if Maemo 5 can handle iCalendar.

You can upload the .ics anywhere and then link it from the wiki page. I'm not a calendar freak myself but if you are into Google Calendars, Facebook vents and such do not hesitate to help the promotion of the event creating whatever entries. Thanks!

Niels is setting up the interface to handle sponsorship requests, the same that was used in the Maemo summit.

Developers directly involved in the Fremantle Stars projects have priority, as well as developers with interesting applications available in the Fremantle extras-devel repository. Also of course Firefox/Fennec add-on developers. And the Mer contributors.

Council members and maemo.org team members are invited to join as well.

Developers short on budget can apply for travel sponsorship now:

http://wiki.maemo.org/Mozilla_Maemo_...nd#Sponsorship

Selection criteria:

* Developers of Fennec add-ons, Fremantle Stars and the Mer project. Link to your projects and get references from lead developers.
* Developers of cool software for average users available in Fremantle extras-devel.
* Other key Maemo contributors with high karma and a concrete development plan for the weekend.

Re: Developer call: Mozilla/Maemo Danish Weekend

For the people interested in helping out in the Mer focus area on the developer meeting, I've put up my high-level and sub goals for the focus area on the wiki. Quoting straight from wiki:

The high level goal of this focus area is to bring Mer closer to 1.0, which is meant to be the first day-to-day usable release on Nokia Internet Tablets. Maemo5 will be in beta stage at this point and and we should be able to provide Fremantle APIs and a Maemo4 replacement to Nokia N8x0(W) users when Maemo5 is out.

The hope is to be able to use the synergy of bringing so many Maemo and Mer related personalities together, to be able to move ahead on things that would take longer if having to be done online.

Sub-goals, which serve as guidelines for activities:

* Control panels to be able to control behavior of your tablet.
* Developer tools - builders, cross compilation environments and IDEs
* Artwork and UI design: Icons, themes, backgrounds, animations, shining up interfaces through code, etc.
* Hardware interfacing and event-reaction daemons (implementing behavior similar to or better than Maemo4)
* Integration with maemo.org both on a organizational (relation to council, community) and technical level (package and image builders, repositories)
* Alignment with Maemo5 APIs and integration of Nokia-closed software in restricted images.
* Chasing down showstopper bugs which would hinder user adoption of Mer 1.0.
* Discussions on Mer after 1.0 and presentations on Mer to potential users and developers.
* Getting the Mer project developers and contributors together for the first time.

So, here's the deal. You can probably already see areas that need improvement, based on your experience with our release images up until now.

If you're interested in helping out and have time and ability to show up for the developer meeting, go to http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/HackfestCopenhagen09 . There you can edit&copy the template, and then follow the instructions.

We hope to use this information to structure the development better within the Mer area (and our development up to the time of the developer meeting).

If you would like to request sponsorship for travel and accommodation, point me to your intentions (private message me here or mail me), and I'll make a reference based on your intentions, expertise, past contributions if any and how your intentions fit in the overall goals of the Mer focus area.

If you intend to request sponsorship, please publish your intentions (and get a reference) as soon as possible so Nokia has time to work it out.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Mozilla_Maemo_Danish_Weekend updated. It should contain all the information CRITICAL to make you decide whether to go or not. If there is something essential missing let us know.

The venue is a nice place. Have you seen the pictures?

The schedule is in embrionary state. There are slots available for 15' presentations/demos and 30-120' project meetings in the auditorium or any of the rooms available. Edit the wiki to put your own activities in the schedule.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Mozilla_Maemo_...d/Participants has 45 participants coming from 18 countries. Definitely an international event! Please register if you are planning to come so we can organize better things like the free lunch and party.

We have sponsored a dozen of developers and there is still budget to sponsor some more. If you are a community member developing cool stuff for Maemo or Fennec you can still request sponsorship. But you need to be QUICK since the flight tickets are more expensive every day and our budget is certainly limited.

You can support this event by promoting it: please FORWARD and BLOG!
