How do submissions work - do I announce an entry now, or wait until I have finished coding?

juiceme 2016-11-12 19:11

Re: [Council] The 1st Maemo Developer Regatta - The starting line

If you already have somethng to show, you could announce early. Otherwice I suggest you do it later.

gryllida 2016-11-15 04:26

Re: [Council] The 1st Maemo Developer Regatta - The starting line

juiceme is right. There are some advantages to announcing early, such as you maybe get more feedback and you get an opportunity to improve your entry before the competition deadline.

I don't think there are any disadvantages to announcing early in fact - even if you don't have any code and only want to talk about a specification. We have an edge case of someone doing it and being unable to collaborate and becoming a competitor in a way, and you would have to start from scratch with another idea or struggle to make a 'better' implementation, but I wouldn't worry about this - our people are kind and usually willing to collaborate and give credit when due, and we have a massive wishlist so there's plenty of ideas to work on.

I have never heard of them and was curious so I checked it out.

What an interesting concept: "Here we are, an unknown group/clan/organization/whatever you have never heard about. Why don't you give us your email and we will tell you if your privacy has been breached."

Oh! But you are a bit off.
Troy Hunt is not just any person I assure you.
He is well known. Accepted and acknowledged in security.
Comparable to Brian Krebs and other great guys.

I was quite alarmed when I initially read your message. I assume your message was intended as a precaution, as opposed to you having found some leaked data?

Sorry, this application is just for SailfishOS, because it depends on Silica UI components. But I hope that my improvements of Qt API (multitouch support for map component, asynchronous search model...) will be merged to upstream library (libosmscout). Then porting to new platforms will require just creating new QML UI.

thanks

It already runs very well. But there are some issues I have to address before makeing a first package release. The app will hit openrepos at end of january. If you won't wait until then, there is a little Readme on the github page of how to build the app for SFOS. It's not that hard ...

Great apps! Shmoose: why not as telepathy plugin? Docker: anything to make development easier is good. Saera: colourful, wish it wasn't in Python, tried it a very long time ago... GPXSee: neat, elevation and speed of a track...

Thank you. Good day, good night, and good luck.
