[nokia n900] Camera - Operation Failed

So, I guess the problem is well known already: at some point the camera of the n900 stops working and whenever you open it, the message "Operation Failed" is displayed.

I did some searches and found a number of solutions that did not work for me, for the sake of clarification I will list them below:
1) Install the BlessN900
2) Install the "new" fcam drivers
3) Remove any software that deals with the camera (as in BlessN900 or fcam)
4) Install an older version of the kernel
5) Install an older version of the power-kernel
6) Format the 30Gb partition using the nokia n900
7) Format the 30Gb partition using linux (mkfs.vfat)
8) Restore default settings (so the camera would save on some "right" path again)
9) Flashing the device
10) Flashing the eMMC

I didn't try anything with a SD card because I don't use one.

The kernels I used were the ones on this thread (as were all the fixes I mentioned above).

Still no working camera.

Output of dmesg | tail is
Code:

[  321.369934] cam_shutter (GPIO 110) is now open
[  322.869689] adp1653 2-0030: failed writing fault register
[  322.870361] video4linux video0: can't power up slaves
[  325.932495] cam_shutter (GPIO 110) is now closed

So, any ideas ?

P.S.: Forgot to mention that the files I used for the flashing were:
RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.41-1.VANILLA_PR_EMMC_MR0_ARM.bin
RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2.002_PR_COMBINED_002_ARM.bin

P.S.S.: I followed the instructions here to flash the device.

I ended up taking the phone to a maintenance guy who replaced my flash hardware.

Other than that I heard it's possible to just disable flash all-together and just take pictures without it.

flash doesn't erease all ... i'm sure this is happening because of an update ... but after flashing i still have some games and other stuff there ...

I had the same problem, and I ended up uninstalling and re-installing Fcam and that made the problem go away.

I resolved it by removing all the custom camera apps, leaving the stock one.

Can u list the custom apps u talking about? My camera has been very blurry for some time now but today i discovered its only showing a black screen.

i have removed some camera apps like flashlight and mbarcoder and blessN900, used apt-get to remove fcam-drivers but to no avail. switched the phone off and on again. Taken out the battery. Nothing seems to work..

Thinking of a reflash (which i hate so doing). Might not install CSSU again.. Wil consider kernel-power though.

Any Suggestions of what might work to restore my camera to its former glory before i undertake this monumental task of flashing and restoring all my apps again?

Only thing that worked for me after searching through a bunch of threads and various attempts to fix the problem. All started with powerkernel after hdr cam app was installed. Removed powerkernel, all 3rd pty cam apps/drivers, reboot/battery remove/replace and bada bing bada boom. :D

Thanks again!

AFAIK, fcamera requires fcam-drivers to work. It is a dependency anyhow. Old posting, I know but fcam-drivers came up in another issue re blessn900.

Re: [nokia n900] Camera - Operation Failed

There have been a few people with fcam-driver issues for a while.
This is due to fcamera being in extras but it's latest fcam-drivers are in extras-devel.

In order to fix this we need to find out if fcam-drivers (version 1.0.7-2) is compatible with the stock kernel.
If so it can be promoted to testing and QA testing will eventually promote it to extras and solve this annoying issue.

So does anybody have fcamera and fcam-drivers 1.0.7-2 working on a stock kernel?

Does anybody know of a reason why fcam-drivers was left in extras-devel?

I don't use fcamera or the stock kernel so I can't test this.

I'm running fcamera on the stock kernel. How do I check the drivers version, & what test would you like done?

Great, I guess you have no trouble with fcam?

Waiting for this too. I can't get my fcam to work.

Not sure what kernel version I'm using. (well, I installed it using the app manager this weekend so I'm assuming it's up to date?)

Re: [nokia n900] Camera - Operation Failed

Hello

My camera stooped working I think after installed blessN900. Need more searching, but last time helped full re flashing.
(Custom power kernel; Live focus; bless - volya...)
Bless installed from fast application installer. I state that because after starting deinstallation process f.app.installer found much more unused applications for deinstallation than it were installed with bless.
I think Bless app should be examined more closely and how it works with other cam apps.

ps.
- It helped me: apt-get remove fcam-drivers
(wtf without installing drivers back) Camera started working.
- When switching in video mode from one to other resolution have some strange artefact's. Part of screen weren't drawn but after taped on screen missed parts are drawn.
- took vide 16:9 dmesg shows:

Not really understood why output is like that after taking only one video (open lens; took video; close lens)

Re: [nokia n900] Camera - Operation Failed

This prob is well known and often described.
Install fcam-drivers from devel repo (enable extras-devel and apt-get install --reinstall fcam-drivers).

About FAM and its autoremove option: you should disable that.
