MJ Technology Ubuntu Tablet

The MJ Technology Ubuntu Tablets seem to have made it to market:

Note, this is not Ubuntu Touch, although it is touch enabled Unity7 Ubuntu, desktop version.

Never heard of that site or company before. Rather sparse. If they had a video of it, in action I might be more tempted. I really question the battery life claim. After the sadness that was the Pengpod tablet I just can't believe this won't be the same. Regular Ubuntu interface on a touch screen is difficult to use. To say the least.

Apparently this comes with a keyboard dock, and with a mouse, it might be a laptop alternative.

Doesn't come with--it's a $50 accessory. And what on earth is a pingo connector? I googled without success.

My bad, poor choice of words. Charged for add-on it is.

Hmmm, what is that connector indeed !

Apparently pingo pins are those grooved pins you see attaching castors to office chairs and the like. So I assume the keyboard is BT and a pingo pins are used to clip in the tablet to a hinge on the keyboard. That is my best guess.

maybe it's just regular pogo pins with a typo. I mean, the whole page is just.......... well, very bad if its purpose is to promote and sell the product.

Now I know what you had in mind, but the only "castor" I could imagine without dictionary aid was this one:

Still, it's hard to part with the vision of beaver-drawn office chairiots race ;)

Far - Far better !
This thing runs linux means we could wipe it and
install something else.
Having a miniPCIE port suggests we could up the ante
and have a GSM machine, but that may cost battery

Re: MJ Technology Ubuntu Tablet

There is loads of info on MJ's Facebook page.

Most relevant is this post, where they discuss running other distros.

Statement of intent:

"MJ Technology LLC Our goal is to make a superior tablet both quality and hardware that a consumer can decide what they want to do with it. Whether that be dual boot Windows/Linux or multiple distro's of Linux. We want to put the power back in the consumers hand to be able to make the choice. Make all the software decisions they like and we will assist them by working on all known viable Linux distro's. It will take time but that is our goal here at MJ Technology LLC. Ubuntu is the mostly widely used consumer Linux distro therefore it was the most logical choice (with which to begin)." (Reference, 1st comment)

Note: I have no connections to MJ Technology or Canonical and post these links and quotes as they address matters raised by Talk Maemo users.
