N900 not powering on after 4 months
Hey guys,
I had to travel out of country for a few months and left my N900 home and forgot to remove the battery. On returning, i checked and the battery had not leaked. I attached a charger, the LED came on and even the faint Nokia logo graphic that appears on screen and the loading dots appeared. I charged for some time and then tried to power on the phone but it is not getting powered on. I even went out and bought a new battery. The phone seems to be charging but cannot be powered on. Any idea what is going on? Much thanks in advance. (P.S. Glad to see this community and forum still active. Warms my heart to see that there is still a place where the fans of this incredible tech innovation still get together) |

wha?
that is interesting.. don't think I have heard of this happening before... peter, android808, freeman, pich, juice , and the others may have some ideas... I have never had such an occurrence happen to me.... I want to keep an eye on this thread...see what the peers have to say... |
Re: N900 not powering on after 4 months
If the new battery behaves like the old one (and the new one was a genuine replacement and not worn out itself) then the problem has to be somewhere in the device itself.
What I'd do is try to find someone near you who has a N900 and swap batteries with her, to see which one would have the problems. |
Re: N900 not powering on after 4 months
'framebuffer' output could help here.
But as you surely do not have it enabled we need to guess. juiceme's proposal is quite good but how to find one with a N900 (there are not so much Nxxx freaks around, at least here ;)). Probably get a external charger (quite cheap: universal ones from China, links here on TMO). It could really be a flat/dead battery ( after months of low discharging ) that even has not enough power to enable the N900 to get it charged. Therefore the advice to get a battery charged outside of the device. What is the status of charging LED and screen output? Possibly try to attach the charger a few times for a few minutes ... |
Re: N900 not powering on after 4 months
I suspect the 'new' battery may not be as new as it seems.
Try juiceme's idea with a known working battery. |

- freshly fully charged battery will not power n900 on. This is Exasperating when you know for a fact that the battery has been charged completely. After a few encounters of this sort I eventually decided the -detected- battery voltage floats too high, up to where circuitry kills the turn on. (pure guesswork actually) Temperature does seem to have a substantial effect on this as well, charging in a cold room seems to set it off. In the past few months I shy away from leaving it on charge and simply avoid fully discharged and fully charged states. I charge it during breakfast, and turn it off completely if I use too much battery. This is not a solution or a cure, it is simply procrastination until I get a real replacement. I am guessing the cure involves dis-assembly and cleaning dust from between the tracks of some forgotten cap or resistor, or voltage sensing circuit, if not replacing some SMD component now no longer available. All in all, this symptom reminds me to keep looking for an n900 replacement. good luck |

Nokia 520 and 530 share the same battery...

Same thing happens to mine. External battery charger always does the trick
