[SOLVED] Unable to enter "w" char in the dialer - new N9 owner

Hey guys, sorry for this thread but I'm very desperate. After having N900 for a couple of months, I've never thought that my first thread on this forum will be about such stupid thing.

I just bought my brand new black N9 with Harmattan 1.2. Of course I used something like Polish version of eBay (called allegro and way more popular than eBay.pl).
To save a couple of bucks, I bought N9 locked to Orange operator (we call it actually "simlock" in Poland). Auction said that for additional 30$ I could buy magical unlock code from Orange. Your guesses are right, I bought additional code. I forgot to add, that my current SIM is not from Orange...
After getting back home I powered my N9 for the very first time (quick peek into gallery showed that seller was actually playing with my phone). Of course phone was powered without any SIM card. Then I began unlocking process. Unlock code written on some scrap of paper, instructions taken from following location:

http://www.nokian9specs.com/1797/unl..._nokia_n9.html

Everything was going just fine until I tried to enter "w" character.
A couple of google searches later I even found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzWuw4fg6nw

Seems that someone else is having similar issue.
This topic:

http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f608...-code-1441260/

mentions SendCodeUsb.exe, but I've found on other forum that it isn't working.
So, since Harmattan bugzilla is closed what can I do?
I've got some experience with flasher tool but I'm afraid that flashing my N9 with some image won't solve my issue.
Is there any other way to actually enter this stupid code?
Maybe entering this code from console level would help?

Again, I'm very sorry for such stupid thread, but I've had my previous phone for 6 years (Motorola E770v) and I really waited for my N9.
Please help...

Solution:
1. Buy locked operator prepaid and insert it into the device (*).
2. Power on phone.
3. In new message view enter full unlock code (#pw+CODE+1#) as a normal string.
4. Copy the full code to clipboard.
5. Create dummy contact and paste the clipboard in number field.
6. Call dummy contact (**).
7. Hot swap locked SIM card to your beloved one (***).
8. Pray.

* - There is a chance that it will work without any SIM inserted, I didn't check.
** - I called this contact about three times because there was no notification about unlocking the phone. During the dialing I received the message that call failed and completely nothing else (don't expect any notification near status bar).
*** - I don't remember if I rebooted the device before this step. I would recommend doing it so.

Additional notes:
-My N9 was locked to Orange operator.
-Try at your own risk - don't blame me if you lose your code definitely and phone will be still locked to operator.

I don't know what to tell you about the W
but
another way to quickly unlock is to simply flash your phone to whatever firmware you want as long as it matches the 64GB version
and you won't need to deal with W

i agree that it is rather strange it's missing

I bought N9 locked to Orange operator (we call it actually "simlock" in Poland).
method #1
try typing "w" while switching Orientation(landscape/portrait)
if keyboard is not typing "w" by direct click.. try typing "w" with "Shift+w" and "Alt+w"... and also "Long press W key"

Or
if this is the process
Quote:

Compose #pw+CODE+1#.
you can try
method #2
1) Borrow an Orange Micro-Sim from your friend and insert it in your N9(hope it will work)
2) "Text" the code to yourself
3) Copy/paste :)

method #3
you can do the same with a Text File with Code transfered via usb or Bt

method #4
or search your N9. you might find any text or Document file EULA etc... copy "W" from it... ;)

Last but not the Least(i know it might not work but hey whats in trying ;)

method #7 (where is #5 & #6 they went on Date :p)
text yourself this smiley
:-W or :-w - i.e speak with forked tongue
it has "w" in it

i just hope any of this crap helps you.. or.. atleast your thread got a bump.. ;)

GODbless :)

Re: Unable to enter "w" char in the dialer - new N9 owner

Thanks guys for reply, I will try some of the mentioned methods :)

As it's seen in posted youtube video, pasting "w" to dialer won't just work. This character is omitted there, no matter the source (on some other forum, guys were trying sending the code via message - still doesn' work).

I think I will try flashing.
I just want my N9, don't need the varranty ;)

I think, and I'm afraid of this, that there is no such thing as "unlock-operator-lock" code for N9s. There are a couple of sites on the web trying to steal money from people who are just unaware of this problem :(

yes w-letter is blocked in ui. Most likely you can still use modem side to issue the command to device though.

like: ATD#pw+...., .
(edit, it might be that unlocking is disabled from mode side too, I have tested).

There is other ways to remove simlock too, but as those methods use exploits, its not allowed to post such details in here.

Re: Unable to enter "w" char in the dialer - new N9 owner

I have black N9 16GB from Orange PL.
As you probably noticed you have not only locked phone but also branded FW.
Mine was PR 1.0 when I bought it and the same day I flashed it with PR 1.1 Central Europe version. I changed also product code.
When PR 1.2 was officially released I received notification and upgraded FW over the air with no issues. So I have unbranded N9 16GB with Central Europe FW despite original product code on a SIM card slot says it is Orang PL branded phone.

This ultimate guide http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693 doesn't recommend changing the product code...

Assuming that it's possible to flash phone with other product code, what future consequences will it have?
Rainisto mentioned something about AT commands, maybe I'll check this. Is it possible to perform call from console level using any other way, for instance dbus?

Afaik its just enough that you enter CODE on the dialog when it regognizes different operator sim, you dont have to enter #pw, just the code part.

And yes, there is dbus API, but it should be enough just to put your sim in and enter unlock code.

Had the same problem. You only need to ask the operator, the one owning the lock, to unlock it for you. They will do that over the air by issuing a GSM operator message. After that you only need to reboot your phone.

In my case different operator sim will cause device power down. Some sound notification are audible for a while and then it powers down.
Never seen this dialog, interesting.
Tomorrow I will get my N9 to one of the nerby Orange store.
