$300 9" tablet runs Ubuntu Linux on AA batteries

http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/N...ecko-Info-Pad/

1GHz X86 CPU
1024 x 600 screen resolution
SD

Battery life is only about 4 hours but i always have AAs on charge so I don't mind swapping them out.

Especially at this price.

The price for the laptop starts at $199 for the basic configuration (512 MB RAM, 8 GB SD). If you are interested in this product, please ask for a price quote, or order now.

Still nice find

Why are there coming so many shiny toys out now? :P

Also, it could be interesting if you can swap out one battery at a time and keep the device running ..

Yes apologies for the confusion. My interest is in the tablet infopad only.

But the Spec sheet I linked to is for the edubook notebook, sorry for my mistake by being overly hasty to share the news.

I have edited my post to remove the Spec sheet link so as to spare new readers the pain of working out what was meant.

OMG.... I think I'm in love. I was just stating over on the pocketables site that I wish the SmartQ/SmartV came in a 9" or 10" tablet ... this thing has an awfully big bevel on the bottom side, but other than that ... *love*

I think I know what's going my Christmas wish list...

Features and specifications listed by NorhTec for the Info Pad include:
Processor -- Xcore 86 (Vortex86MX SoC) clocked at 1.0GHz
Memory -- 512MB or 1GB of DDR2 RAM, soldered on CPU module
Display -- 8.9-inch touchscreen display with 1024 x 600 resolution
Storage -- 8GB of flash storage (via SD card)
Networking -- 10/100 Ethernet port
Other I/O:
3 x USB 2.0
VGA
Audio -- line in and line out
Expansion -- 2 x internal SD slots
Battery -- Accepts 8 NiMH AA cells, or lithium-ion battery packs, with run times approximately four or six hours, respectively
Dimensions/weight -- n/s
Just read the article and make sure you read where the information refers to. The previous product EduBook, or the new product Info Pad.

Also, some more specifications:
Quote:

According to NorhTec, the Gecko Info Pad includes two SD slots (one already occupied by an 8GB card), three USB ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, VGA output, a microphone and stereo speakers, plus jacks for line-level audio I/O. Integrated 802.11b/g is standard, while Bluetooth can be added as an option, the company says.
Now the question is does it support USB OTG ;)

Quite possibly the worst industrial design I have ever seen.

  • Android phone or N900 in my pocket
  • Mifi with AT&T 3G in my gadget bag
  • This tablet in my gadget bag (1GB/Lithium battery version ... though, I wish they had a 2GB version)

I think that'd shape up to be a perfect mobile gear arrangement for me. Just waiting for the AT&T version of the Mifi to be announced :-) (well, and for the various products to get from "announced" to "shipped").

I've been following it since it first was announced. And unless I get a hands on look a this at CES, I likely won't touch it myself. Not impressed enough to bother with it.
