WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
I have Nexus 7 tablet and have been trying to connect it to a mobile internet using my N900 as a WiFi hotspot.
I tried everything I could think of; Qt Mobile Hotspot app, setting it up from a command line (iptables /ifconfig/iwconfig), clear connection, WEP encrypted... nothing really helps. My Dell laptop (with Ubuntu) can connect to this AP, so it seems to be setup properly, but the Android 4.2 on the tablet does not even show the ESSID so I cannot connect to it. :( If anyone could give me some hints what else to try in order to make it work, I would really appreciate it. |
Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
Android supports only infrastructure networks and the N900 creates an ad-hoc network. Only way around this is to root the android tab and replace the wpa-supplicant files if you can find them somewhere.

Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
Is it because the N7 can't see non infrastructure WiFi hotspots?

Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
Android supports Ad-Hoc mode? i don't think so. (webOS had the same issue at hand)

Thanks for such a quick answer guys!
Now it makes it all clear - I've been struggling for nothing. Cheers! |
Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
Maybe this could partly solve your problem if youre using windows 7.

Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
There are also methods available over at XDA-Developers forum to make Android devices see Ad-Hoc access points, but they all require that you root your device first.

Re: WiFi Access-Point invisible for Android tablet
Thanks everyone for your support.
After all I think it's just easiest to: 1) Install Bluetooth DUN on the phone 2) Use BlueVPN on the tablet. And same goal achieved: mobile internet on N7 via N900 :) |
