BT GPS Unit
 

Okay, I really want to buy a BT GPS unit, but I don't know which one I should get. I know there is a bunch of reviews for them, but I am looking for a cheap unit that I can buy in Canada or buy from the States that has cheap shipping to Canada.

Any help would be appreciated

i bought a holux gpslim 236 for around $70 usd including shipping & i'm very happy with it. it comes with a car & home charger but will also charge off your pc <usb>. it was ranked highly by the gps guru sites i came acrossed - so far so good. maemo mapper found it without a hitch. the only bummer is if you don't have BT on your laptop you'll need a special cable.

I recently bought the Qstarz Q818 from this store.
It works well with the 770 and Nokia E70 handset, and it uses the same battery as the E70.

I haven't bought from either of these places, but I thought I'd mention them anyway.

Choosing a Bluetooth GPS unit that suits your needs, based on my limited knowledge:

GPS chipset: "MTK" versus "SiRFstarIII"

All the leading GPS receivers use one of the following two types of chipsets:

MTK is a new technology and is lowered powered, allowing for better battery life. It is better suited for applications characterized by higher rates of speed (driving and cycling), rather than for walking.

SiRFstarIII is a bit older, uses more energy, and is better suited for slower paced applications (walking and jogging).

but maemo mapper does not give voice navigation.. does it ?
is there an open-source app for voice navigation ?
