Does anyone know if the Nokia N9 is supporting EAP-sim ?

When I say option, I mean that when you create a new internet connection, you can specify what sort of security it has: you can select EAP-TLS EAP-TTLS... but I do not see EAP-SIM... that is why I am skeptical :(

I hope that Nokia provides some input, at least indicating directions on how to add it! But I fear that if this is tricky, it will not be part of PR1.2 which is currently being finalised... |

About the N900, apparently eap-sim is not supported either... And I have no idea if the same sort of solution can be applied to both phones (probably yes as they share the same maemo roots?!) |

Hi all,
On my side here is what I understand : - Actually I don't need 'EAP-SIM authentication' to be able to use Freewifi Hotspots from my N900 (not already tested with my N9 but I don't see any restrictions that can block the same process). - By the way, without 'EAP-SIM authentication' I have to connect to the open Freewifi Hotspot near me, then, after that, go to the default captive web site to enter my authentication credentials. - Then I'm able to use the Freewifi Hotpsot as usual. - If I understand properly 'EAP-SIM authentication', whenever the device connect to the Freewifi Hotspot, then the authentication is automatically pushed, avoiding the phase to use the captive web site to manually entering credentials ... - I think if the device doesn't support 'EAP-SIM authentication', then we fall back to entering the credentials manually using the old method (captive web site). Hope it help ... |

I have a mobile.free.fr SIM card and n950 how can I help ? note that wget url?login=&passwd= can do the job i use it but is there a way to do that automagickaly w/ a hook on a dbus event ? |

I think SIM-EAP is better than that. Of course it allow authentication as you mention it. But as I understand, it also allow to use the Wifi automatically instead of your 3G data connection. So man should have better transfer rate and economize your data quota. Quote:

I saw that the N900 supports EAP protocol which isn't EAP-SIM but could be close. I'll be joining Free Mobile on thursday (If I receive my sim card soon enough :)) and start tests right away.
Meanwhile many Free techies still own a N900 as a pro phone. I hope some Free personnal could be helping about a solution if any. |

@Hec : Install AutoFreeWifi to connect on FreeWifi networks. But, for this, you must have a Freebox and a FreeWifi ID.
If you've got FreeMobile only, I'm afraid you won't have any chance to connect on FreeWifi with the N900. |

Ok so Free launch the EAP sim support today... still not available for the Nokia N9... I think it may have a solution because the N9 already support the EAP protocol for wifi the only thing missing is the sim authentification ability...
Hope to see it in PR 1.3 or in an alternative app ;) |

c'est bizarre car normalement, swisscom fait de l'eapsim, et d'apres ce que j'ai entendu, pas de soucis avec. est ce aue la rom suisse aurai quelque chose de particulier???

I ttried to connect to a Free eap-sim enabled mobile hotspot with my n900 this week-end. It did'nt work.:mad: However, I found this sentence in maemo wiki: Quote:

As libicd-network-eap is closed source I think only some nokian can tell us more about this. It would be great if there is an implementation available at least through dbus. EAP-SIM has _not_ been implemented, so its not just UI missing.
And even if you try to recompile N900 libicd-network-wpa, you will notice that javispedros wpasupplicant is compiled without CONFIG_EAP_SIM, so there is no support currently in that way either. Summa summarum EAP-SIM is not supported and most likely will never be supported, unless you code everything yourself. |

For my first post i'd like to know if someone did try to write : network={ ssid="FreeWifi_secure" key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X eap=SIM priority=5 } in wpa_supplicant.conf ? I've found some code here : http://gitorious.org/harmattan-extra-packages you can download sources here : http://gitorious.org/harmattan-extra...commits/debian So there are codes to manage eap sim authentication (eap_sim.c, eap-methods.c, ...) Don't know which version of wpa_supplicant is installed and how to update or modifiy it I'll receive my n9 in a few weeks, I'll try it ASAP ... |

Sorry, i won't be able to test it ... i'm so desapointed because of 802.11n hardware problem (only works when screen is locked :eek: ) I send N9 back to vendor ... will stay with E72 ... |
