[IM & SMS]Unable to send/recieve messages. It says Device Storage Full

Whenever I type something on googetalk, I get a yellow ribbon sayind
Quote:

Unable to receive or send new messages.
Device Storage full.
Remove data to free memory
Vut the Device has 8 GB freem the memory card has 20MB free, and i still have 1.27GB free for installable apps.

I have deleted all my previous sms's, previously stored googletalk chats, rebooted my cellphone and i still keep on getting this error.

Am i doing something wrong, or is this a bug?

Re: Unable to recieve messages. It says Device Storage full

It is a problem with non-optified application(s) that take your place. Reboot is a temporary solution, removing the application(s) is a permanent one. You can check the thread about non-optified applications to find the one.

eeeek the unable to remove part has been discussed before, i think it can be done via the terminal

Quick search found this thread
And in it, this post :

the command you would use is apt-get in the terminal.

apt-get remove packagename

will remove a package. Depending on how the dependicies are configured the applications you list may not be removable without breaking or removing other important packages.

if you google for apt-get you'll find lots of documentation about how to use it.

to find the name of a package as sometimes they can be hard to guess you can use

dpkg --search filename

EDIT: - also found this in another thread :)

simple... install the gain root extra...
pull up terminal and issue this command

$ apt-get remove game*
This will REMOVE ALL the games
PS: I always do this to get rid of games from my ubuntu server and Linux box to remove games since i rarely play games anymore...
Here is the output..

so far everything on the N900 is working just fine. If i have to reflash then so be it but to completely remove those games use that command.
BTW, if you looked at the lines, you can actually remove the games individually by using dpkg -l i think to get a list of packages installed and remove them that way looking at the output.

are you root? :) - as i assume answering 'y' doesn't actually mean you are? - think there was some instructions for getting root or sunning sudo command? (Really not sure on this, we need a linux legend to help us here!) :) :)

Re: Unable to recieve messages. It says Device Storage full

so my app manager shows operation failed.

the application catalog area appears empty, and i cant add any new catalog.

this blows.

Re: Unable to recieve messages. It says Device Storage full

It is asking are you root, as you are not using root to do the command.

Not sure if this works as stock, but in the terminal just type: root
This should make you root, then do the apt-get command again. Not sure if sudo works as stock either :S

Re: Unable to recieve messages. It says Device Storage full

this is what i am getting on my app manager log

Quote:

hildon-application-manager 2.2.35-3
write: Broken pipe
write: Broken pipe
apt-worker exited.
apt-worker: can't truncate lock /var/lib/hildon-application-manager/apt-worker-lock: No space left on device
read: Bad file descriptor
apt-worker is not running
and after trying sudo apt-get remove aMSN, it says dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run "dpkg --configure -a".

after running that, it sayas requested operation requires super user privilege.

what do i do now *bashes head on wall*
