Wagic: a Magic The Gathering etc. engine

First of all, I'm a beginner in the Linux world, so I would like to thank the community for all the information on this site. I'm slowly falling in love with Linux. ;)

Yesterday I came across a Windows/PSP/Linux tactical fantasy card game engine called Wagic:

http://wololo.net/wagic/download/

It's highly costumizable and opensourced. Plus, it's the engine for my favourite card game in high school. Could we play it on n800 in some way (Easy Mer/Debian maybe)? If the answer is yes, then how can I get it to work?

Looks likely doable, but needs porting from gl to gles... I added it to my "TODO in the future if noone else cares and I have a lazy weekend" ;)

I've got a compiling-but-crashing version. I need to take a break for other things for a week or two. I'll finish it later.

Second. I love my N900 and I love MtG. I will help test as well. If someone needs help with generic efforts like pics or data input I might be able to help.

Keep this idea rolling.:D:D

Looking good! I think I still got 3 or 4 M:TG decks (even with some rare cards) laying around somewhere - Wagic could be nice to have on the N900 :)

You don't have to get out your cards for this, there are divers image sets on the net - mtg, star wars, final fantasy, among the others.

I know, I know - just wanted to note that I too am a M:TG fan (well at least I used to be one :) )

Any news on this topic? Is anyone planning on working this? Does anyone need help?

Kind of still working on it. Or at least I'll get back to that once I hand in my final project this week... damn priorities :/ If anyone else wants to have a go earlier, let me know - I've changed the engine to compile with gles

Kind of on-topic.. but this is in python+gtk and seems like it may work for MTG.. I'm toying with it now to see what pans out.

IMO (from the user's perspective) it's better to take a game which has already user base and online community. But I don't know anything of the difficulties of porting opengl vs python. Don't Iet me discourage you, I will be a happy panda if - some way or the other - I will be able to play MTG on my tablet in the immediate future...

Meanwhile.. I found another offline client, MTG Forge, which is written in java, so it runs on easy debian (tried it). But, it's unusable on my old hardware, it's extremely slow. :( Maybe you want to make an attempt with this on n900.

I can say this didn't pan out so well. I got it to launch and pretend to play after finding and downloading all the card information (which it required).. but when trying to start a new game it would segfault. It took a bit of work to get it that far.. so I gave up.

For Wagic we're waiting on Viraptop I guess.. I don't know how to port from GL to GLES.

I started porting Wagic on the N900. A small and crappy video preview is available here and we also discuss directly the port also in Wagic forum here

Great!! This looks good.

Having spent already 190 hrs on Magic the Gathering Duals of the Plainwalkers - I'll be happy get a life outside taking this game along :p

Having spent way too much money on WotC supplied booster packs in the nineties I'd be happy to contribute some cash as well ;)

Just tried it out it works awesome! The interface is mostly keyboard but it works like a charm! Thanks a lot! I see the card pictures are missing, after doing some research i see that i need to find them and install them myself (since wagic got cease and desist order from wizards cause of the use of pics)

Any chance this will be full screen in the future? (So the top bar isn't visible and the whole screen is being used for the game)
