Shortcut for Maemo
 

Hi All,

I have disastrous situation. My N900 suddenly stopped recognising touch input. Everytime its getting false touch signal and stops there forever. I did whatever was possible resolve and check whether it’s a software issue. I formatted N900 and vanilla with version 1.3 but no luck.

I believe something is wrong with the hardware or chip. At this moment I don’t think its logical to spend money and get it fixed. The keyboard is working Fine.


But I was using this phone since almost like two years I have hugh data, contact and other information.

My inner Maemo loving soul doesn’t want to loos this beauty bar.

Is it possible to complete all regular phone operations of by keypad using shortcuts?
Like closing application, opening application, selecting application, accessing messages and dialler etc.. As if it’s independent of touch screen functionbality.

Do any of you know any such tweak or application which can help me in this situation?

Not AFAIK. Some operations work with the keyboard, others can be patched (hildon-desktop), and others I have no idea.

Still, I would also *love* to be able to do everything with the hwkbd only.

you can lunch x-terminal by pressing ctrl+caps+x then you can lunch the applications from there by typing it's name
"this may sound crazy but if you are using screen protector remove it maybe there is some dust under it you know i was suffering from bad touch screen after 3 or 4 months i discovered that was because of the dirty screen protector "

Bluetooth HID input (or, less convenient, via hostmode?)? Not necessary a mouse - maybe some small thing that You wear on finger (gives You cyberpunk'ish look ;) ) or whatever.

On the other hand, it's probably just digitizer fail, which isn't expensive to repair. Of course, it's up to You.

I cant believe this it started working... all magic.. I removed the screen protector and it works....

I was facing this issue since last two moths got fully bugd..totally clueless about to purchase new a fon.. but ts working hahaha. Thanks..thanks again..

nop i just did my duty and if you want a screen protector buy another one dont use the same it is dirty now :D

i've uploaded to extras-devel a package with xdotool: http://maemo.org/packages/view/xdotool/ , you can read about usage here: http://www.semicomplete.com/projects/xdotool/ or search the web for tutorials - generally it allows you to fake mouse input for any windowed application, it has some issues in Maemo (mouse events don't wake up screen sometimes - I wanted to patch this to check if screen is locked and unlock if needed, but didn't have time for that -, there are problems with changing focus from one window to another), but it generally works.

As for window switching in Maemo - you can hit ctrl+backspace for miniatures and use q, w, e... to open first, second, third... window, if you hit blue arrow + q/w/e, it closes 1st/2nd/3rd window instead of setting focus.
