[Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

The newly elected Hildon Foundation Council (HFC) provide the new Hildon Foundation Board eligibility rules (see appendix) for Board of Directors elections and
announce elections for HiFo BoD.

The nomination period for said BoD elections will start on the June 1st 0:00UTC and will end on June 14th 23:59UTC, the contemplation period runs from June 15th
0:00UTC till June 21st 23:59UTC
, and voting then runs from June 22nd 0:00UTC till June 28th 23:59UTC.

Appendix - Hildon Foundation Board Candidate Eligibility Rules
  1. Nominations will be accepted 3 weeks before the election begins from any community member with a karma of 100 or above.
  2. Nominees with a commercial interest in Maemo or Hildon Foundation, such as working for Nokia - or any other company involved with software development - must declare their interest when advertising their nomination. Failure to do so may result in the HFC, declaring their nomination invalid and so bar them from standing in the current election.
  3. Elections last for 1 week.
  4. Only community members who have had maemo.org accounts for over 3 months and have karma of 10 or above, may vote.
  5. Each community member eligible to vote gets a single ballot.
  6. The 7 nominees voted for most, as counted by a single transferrable vote system are elected. (For special cases see HiFo bylaws.)
  7. There is no limit to the number of times a board member can stand for re-election.

Looking at the number of thanks after two days, I think this
thread is worth a BUMP to gain more attention.

Is there a link to the nominees? I know of 2. How many now with just 3 days to go?

Re: [Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

Have a look at https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/list...aemo-community.
The nominations are in the archive. Woody + GeneralAntilles self-nominated in may, Chemist in june.
Some good fellas around here should honestly consider doing the same as we definitely need more candidates!

Quote:

Board of Director elections shall be for seven (7) seats, unless less than nine (9)
members are nominated for the Board of Directors, in which case only five (5) seats shall be chosen
in that election. If fewer than six (6) members are nominated for the Board of Directors, only three
(3) seats shall be chosen in that election. If at any time fewer than four (4) nominees remain after the
nomination period for either the Foundation Council or the Board of Directors, the nomination period
for that body shall be extended by least seven (7) days, and a second announcement of election shall blabla
Bylaws part X - NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS has all the details.

I just compiled them on the wiki now. 3 candidates confirmed.

There's potentially one more declaration from khm. Not sure it's it's valid or if the karma requirements are met.

Nominations are ending tonight (UTC) and we still need more people. To any qualified volunteers: please consider running.

Re: [Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

Is a scenario possible that a fourth person will volounteere just so that we could push through the voting and no one would vote for that person? If yes I'm all in just for the sake of finishing this mess with a happy end ;)

pichlo 2013-06-14 13:30

Re: [Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

@fw190, according to point 6 in the first post, 4 nominees just would not cut the mustard.

fw190 2013-06-14 13:58

Re: [Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

I was reding this:

"If at any time fewer than four (4) nominees remain after the
nomination period for either the Foundation Council or the Board of Directors, the nomination period
for that body shall be extended by least seven (7) days, and a second announcement of election shall blabla"

That is why I thought this could work out but maybe I misunderstod something.

well, FWIW:
7 out of 9+ candidates will get elected.
if less than 9 then
5 out of 6-8 will get elected
if less than 6 then
3 out of 4-5 will get elected

Re: [Elections] HiFo Board of Directors election announcement

Just to keep the above post as is... but I should mention all my maemo-related accounts, so here they are:
TMO
maemo
garage

I've added a brief introduction of myself to my candidate declaration:
I am self-employed in the domain of videoproduction, mainly as a cameraman.
In april 2012 I purchased a N9, my first linux device and you can imagine I needed some help with it. So I joined the maemo community and what I've found here instantly comprised me. Since then I am a daily visitor of the forum and later on agreed to help maintaining the wiki.
So my practical experience with Linux and IT in general is limited, but I think it's not the most important thing for a position like this. I do believe though that a healthy common sense about what is good for the community is invaluable.
I toss my hat in the ring basically to make sure this election actually can be held now and because I believe the actual BoD needs to be replaced in order to serve the community, as it deserves much better.

Let me answer some questions that came up on TMO:

Quote:

Where do you see maemo.org in 1 year? In 5 years?
  • A year ahead, I'd expect the community at least as vibrant as today. We still get new members every day and I believe many maemo + meego users will stay faithful. And if our Harmattan-devices will run sailfish OS and probably even vice versa, there is a promissing 5 years perspective IMO.

Quote:

What do see you as the primary role for the Hildon Foundation Board of Directors?
  • Actually the HiFo-page states "The Hildon Foundation is a nonprofit organization elected by the Maemo Community to handle community oversight and infrastructure."
I'd change it to something like "The Hildon Foundation is a nonprofit organization elected by the Maemo Community to represent it for legal and other official practices and to preserve the maemo.org infrastructure."

Quote:

How do you envision the relationship between the Hildon Foundation Board of Directors and the Hildon Foundation Council/Maemo Community Council?
  • As maemo.org now is completely community-driven and represented by the council, I believe the BoD should provide service for community/council demands where needed. Close collaboration is a requirement here.

Quote:

Are you able to attend board meetings at least monthly?
  • Well, as a freelancer you can never tell exactly till date closes, besides that I gladly am ;-)

Quote:

Do you own a Maemo device? do you (regularly) use a Maemo device? Are you at all interested in Maemo and its community?
  • Despite feeling a bit under-equipped here with one N9, I'm a happy camper. There actually is no alternative for me and this community with it's spirit just fascinates me. And I realized that everybody not only can, but needs to do something to actually keep this great community alive'n kickin. Like you and me, remember this little story?

Quote:

What kind of collaboration do you expect to see from Nokia, to ensure survival of the most important assets?
  • Some serious collaboration can't be expected I guess, because the relation seems quite screwed. But I do hope the contract once figured or somehow adjusted can finally be set effective. Though chances are low, I'd support any attempts to gain Harmattan assets wherever possible. Oh, and one fine day Nokia will give Meego a 2nd chance, acquire Jolla and we lived happily ever after... :-)

Kind regards

Oh, votes are annoying for you all? Then let's replace this by a proper dictatorship!
Anthonie, you are sentenced to do the protocols, every Friday on council meetings. Uh scrap that, when I'm dictator I don't need any more boring meetings. But I heard sixwheeledbeast has some really annoying and tedious task he urgently wants to hand over to you, sth about cleaning out ~90 pkgs/d from repository management.
Better now? Less boring and annoying? ;-P
Wait... For a decent dictatorship I'm missing some tough mean guys for the executive power, and maybe a corrupt judical system.
On a second thought votes (and what many of you call politics, I wonder if you think a rugby match is about politics as well) might be the least annoying of all alternatives. Sorry for the inconveniences this is causing for some of you.

No harm meant!

AFAIK, Board still has to acknowledge the actual election process (any time soon).
A HiFo Board meeting is sceduled for today in ~20 minutes:
http://www.concert-oh.com/web/meetin...6M_VAnCLQaAA==
The meeting is public and open, you just need to create an account to access the meeting.
Join in and watch what happens.

EDIT: What a farce - meeting host (SD69) didn't show up on his meeting and yesterday Jim resigned.
So the meeting today basically did not materialize and was just a waste of time and now we're left with a 2-person Board.

You need the token sent to your email address. If you don't have one, you can request one on the voting page.

You can read the comments by joining the meeting.
I think it uses flash and some javascript.

AFAIK, Woody14619 is calling for a meeting after elections.

That's however the duty of each and every single community member, neither the one of council nor BoD. Both entities serve the community and pick up on whatever is happening there, done by regular users. The council occasionally may suggest ideas, or bring news to the general community public's notice. Not much more that either entity can - and should - do for the community's evolvement. It's you who evolve or at least drive any such evolution, not the council or BoD evolving anything for you.

Yes, it seems that you need maemo.org in order to vote. Then, you can request voting token on voting page of current election.
I am not sure if there are any restrictions on new-ness of maemo.org accounts.
Best wishes.

There generally is: GARAGE Accounts have to be at least 3 months old. And user needs a minimum of 10 for karma. Though during this elections term the former council has defined a certain exception rule that is:
since the services been broken (and karma calculation still is, to a certain degree), you are free to write a mail to council@maemo.org, state your garage account and email in garage account and provide pointers to contributions to maemo that prove that you're no bloody newcomer but have been "with maemo" for >3 months, and council will do its best to mail a token to you. This is not limited by any karma you have or don't have achieved.
Also there's a very small number of maemo community members that for various reasons haven't received any mail with ballot/token despite they (now) fulfill all the karma and account-age requirements. We ecplicitly invite those community members to also bring their issue to the council, by mail, exactly like explained above.

Best Regards
jOERG
