On the massive success of the Nokia Innovators contest at bringing us quality N900 software

First off, i don't know what the rules of the Nokia innovators contest were. However, when i notice that one of the winners of $25,000 for "Best N900 App" hasn't been given a proper release on the N900, it seems a bit odd.

So, here's an issue that needs to be (ideally) resolved or, that failing, more publicly outed as yet another Nokia/Maemo epic fail and tossed onto the manure pile after that airing. I'm posting the synopsis of the gruesome story here so that it can be discussed in the context of a community response, and in the hope the council can communicate with Nokia about it.

I'm talking about Stellarium Mobile by a developer named Fabien. The mobile version of Stellarium was highly anticipated in the Stellarium thread, and then all development seemed to cease and people weren't sure if it had even been completed for submission into the contest until...

It won (shared) first place as best application at the "calling all inovators" competition. http://www.callingallinnovators.com/

"Best application for the Nokia N900 (prize will be split between two developers): Stellarium Mobile by Fabien Chéreau (Germany) and FrontView900 by Ben Lau (Hong Kong)"

So that's a nice USD 25K for all the work that was put in.

Would love to see it in the testing repo soon.:)

Well, this is stupid. How do you "win" without actually releasing the app? The contest submission was due by June 10th, so it's been collecting dust for the THREE MONTHS (wtf?) it took to judge the contest, and we're still waiting to see this in the Ovi store after that?

I guess Fabian is still contemplating if he should ask money for it or not. That's to say if this rumour (mentioned in above the video in this blog post) is true in any way.

Then again he received some price money now so that idea might just change.

Wasn't source submitted for this contest? If so, how was it licensed?

I thought fabien won it for frontview 900 - if so then that app is available in extras.

Also see

Unless I missed the story here?

Missed a few facts in the o.p... like the name of the app that Fabien developed. ;)

Fabien won for Stellarium, a program never released (and not available anymore).

Actually, he won it for "Stellarium Mobile". My understanding is that this optimized version of Stellarium didn't make it to the repos.

The one released in extras-devel is a port of the desktop version, not the mobile-optimized version which won the contest.

Maybe somebody should contact him and ask when the program is going to be released, his e-mail address can be found here.
