Absolutely Positively No Downgrade?

Hello,

Finally bought a Nokia N9 from a refurbishing place in China. Not my first choice, but it was the only affordable option. It's running PR1.3 with the 003 region code, and I'd really like to get it back to a fresh state without all the China social network stuff, and *with* the Europe/US services.

I've done a fair bit of reading, and I can find no mention of downgrading except strict statements that say it can't be done. From my understanding, I can go up to 009, but not down to 001. 009 appears to be "Europe (2)", but I am wondering, before I take the plunge:

1) if there's any difference between 001 and 009
2) if there's any chance at all to "downgrade" to 001 (stupid software decision, anyway - makes it seem like some countries are better than others)
3) where to get PR1.3 009 firmware, since even after scouring threads and using the most updated repos I can find (https://silma.tk/soft/ or https://markom.lt/n9/firmwares/) there's no 009 firmwares

alternatively, are there ways to take the firmware version I have and remove the pieces that I don't want?
or, is there a different region I should look at upgrading to? (006 seems to be the highest region I can find firmware for, which is Middle East iirc, and I don't know what effect that will have on anything except Maps/Drive).

Thank you!

Yes, unless you have detailed knowledge (rainisto) and/or access to the tools (of the no longer existing production line).

But regarding your chinese phone see this post:

1) no idea but guess just some 'social stuff'
2) no (so make sure you grab also a 003 firmware file, for cmt)
3) use the internet (or possibly some kind member can help out?)

There are two different ways to downgrade a N9 that I know of, but neither is especially easy :D

1.) There's a certain guy in Tampere, Finlad who can do it for you, The downside is you have to travel there and know who to ask for
2.) If you have (or can get hold of) another N9 which is on lower software leve than your device there is a way to use ubiboot to duplicate the FS of the pristine device to your device

Downgrading is possible and has been achieved. Check out this post by feuerplatz and read the rest of the thread.

Orly, is this tested/confirmed? I guess there might be more info in the not-ubiboot-provided-partitions.

Thanks for reminder!
So yes, it has been achieved. But it needs detailed knowledge ...

Indeed! As long as it cannot be reliably reproduced I consider this method a vapor case, unfortunately. :(

Yes, you do have a valid point; this method does not downgrade the CAL and CMT. However it does fully downgrade the Harmattan system software which is what most people want. :)

the details are there, and i managed to get thru it all, just needed a specific version of sw - matching the initial certificate, unfortunately i only managed to find that after having sold my devices.
but iam sure it works for downgrading.

If someone made it. Where it be possible to upload the partitions of lower FW to made it possible for all?
