Dead N9?

Hi all,

I'm new here but having spent an entire evening trying to fix an N9, I really need your help!

I received this N9 dead from the owner (it was cheap) but the screen showed the Nokia logo when plugged into power so I thought it should be relatively straight forward to unbrick. Anyway, without having seen the device on, I was unsure exactly which firmware to flash, and looking on the sim tray I found:

040-096926

L1A11135

P1-1 v3.0

This didn't seem to match the files on Navifirm so I took a guess and went with the UK 16Gb black rom (I am from the UK and this is where I acquired the unit). The device responded well to being flashed in Ubuntu using Flasher (using commands flasher -f -F main.bin). however, it would not boot after this, and stopped showing the Nokia logo anymore. After a while I thought I would try the generic black 16Gb rom, but now flasher would throw up errors , a typical example is here:
root@lubuntu:/home/lubuntu/Desktop# flasher -f -F main.bin
flasher 3.12.1 (Oct 5 2011) Harmattan

Trying su flasher -i brings up this:

I also tried flashing the emmc along with the main rom as listed here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693

but to no avail. Cold boot also seems to not do anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm all out of ideas. Any help would be so greatly appreciated, and sorry for the long post but just wanted to make sure you knew exactly what I'd done before anyone says RTFM!

Thanks,

Mark

Search for 96926 on Navifirm? Is there a quick search function that you know of?

right I've exported the entire directory into a text file and I still can't seem to find 96926 in Navifirm, am I missing something?

Can you give the Name of the person who sold this to you? As it has prototype imei, which are not allowed to be sold. So the person can be fired from work for selling old prototype hardware.

PS. If you go to Nokia care with the device and they notice the imei, your in trouble :-)

Re: Dead N9?

That would explain a lot then, thanks. The person who sold it to me is themselves someone who bought this from another, who as you suggest may well be a naughty disgruntled Nokia employee!

Hmm, right well I'm in a jam as I have bought this item and I can't get it working. Any advice on what software is best to get this thing running again? If it's an old prototype then I'll happily keep it as long as it works - I have a friend who works at Nokia (no it wasn't him, he's off in California working on WP8 devices!), and I know how much trouble employees can get in for selling prototypes, so I wouldn't want to get anyone fired.

Anyone help me with this? If I can get it working I'll just keep it, I had no idea I would end up with a prototype

waspy, seems like old geeks here are jealous about proto as they are not able to get it.
instead of helping you up, they're messing with imei....
better edit first post and remove / censure imei in there (just in case)
however, seems like there's something wrong with your device and it looks like it can't flash root filesystem onto your phone.
maybe you can boot to meego CE, as i've seen you can flash kernel and meego is booting from mass memory, so, maybe you can see at least if it can't mount your phone as mass storage, then...it's dead...though

Thanks wook_sf, edited. I'm happy to swap my proto with a consumer, I just want a working Meego phone!

So can you give me some idea of what I should be looking to do? This is going to the edge of my experience here...

Re: Dead N9?

actually, you can just download any FW from Navifirm as long as the PR_Legacy is 280 or higher...from your output, pr_legacy 280 is installed so using pr_001 won't work...i'm not sure if it would work but you could try it...
