mer on n810 in 2012, how?

All the tutorials i have found required compiling which i can't do or is ridiculously outdated. If some one has image already built or is able to build it without too much of work please do.

check https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptation/N8x0

Nothing too new seems to be available. Dunno if Mer is currently build for armv6 so that might be the reason..

IICR parts of mer are depending on obsolete ubuntu, so it may be a good idea to update this to debian stable

I am wondering about the closed bit , there is a new powervr driver out isnt it

Also, Mer is just a core around which one can build a distribution, it's not end-user oriented and even if there were fresh images available they wouldn't do anything too interesting. On top of that, the distributions people are building around Mer all seem to require working GL so look like non-starters on the N810.

Ah, yeah, the whole situation can be a bit confusing. I wish they'd picked a new name for the new one.

You can't create image for armv6 because support isn't there or there arent any prebuilt images?

I don't really care as long as you give me package manager. What you mean by core to build distribution?

It seems i've posted without doing necessery research.

http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/Releases/0.17 (testing one)
http://wiki.maemo.org/Mer/Releases/0.16 (stable one)

In those links are prebuilt archives for n8x0 devices. Those archives are just root file system for mer. I have no idea how to ably that to my device. Can i just extract the filesystem to n810 and it next time boot mer? Or do i need to use utility like flasher?

Right, that's the old Mer, that was based on the free parts of Fremantle (as opposed to the new Mer that's based on MeeGo core). It's unmaintained and a dead end, but installation instructions can be found here.

l loved the promise of the old Mer and thought it was a mistake to abandon it all along, along with the standard Nokia betrayal we've become so accustomed to since then. I would love it if someone would resurrect the real thing.
