[Release] D-THEME -serie

Hello!

I've been working on with new serie of themes called "D-THEME".

Three of them should be now available at extras-devel repository and I shall later promote them into testing if no bugs are found.

These should all be on extras-testing repository.

Please test and report any found bugs here.

If you have tested one of the themes (or more) and you think it's ready for extras, please go here and cast your vote:

Hi,

I like this Theme very much.
TwoOne thing I would like to propose:

1. please install to /home/opt, 10MB in root is very much
1. you could maybe change the apparance of the 'close' button, it looks a bit unaesthetic (-;

thank you

I was thinking of finetuning all the top bar buttons a bit to make them more clear and "readable". So this is kind of on to-do -list already :)

Themes are optified, only few files are left on rootfs (200-400kb total).

Very nice! I've tried out the black and blue ones today, and I like both. The series of tiny dots that act as the border between menu list items looks a little strange though and does't mesh well to me. Also, anything you can do to further distinguish each version from the other two can only be an improvement I would think (theme color matched icon/keyboard presses and menu highlights, instead of just gray across all three versions, etc). Just some constructive criticism from a fan :).

Thanks for testing :) Those will be changed in the next version.

Great themes as always. I like the outlines in different colors.
I'll definitely be using the black and the blue one. =)

Just one thing, I would like different icons for the task switcher/close buttons etc to the livil steel themes. It would deifnitely make it look more different and unique. (Have you tried the Array theme by joppu? Quite unique)

Yeah, I've already drawn the buttons in my head. Now I just need to do the same on photoshop :)

I haven't tried Array, but I will do it soon.

D-theme Blue took 1MB of my rootfs space. Can you optifying it to take less than this? every MB is precious amount in the rootfs

Please do a reboot or run this in terminal:
sudo gainroot
apt-get clean

It should only take about 0,3MB of rootfs. I'm still waiting for the fix for maemo-optify bug. It's something that I cannot fix.

I won't make include custom icons since I think it's better to follow "standard" with those and keep the original look and feel with those.

New close / switch buttons are turning out to be quite nice, I'm testing them as we speak.
And btw, these themes are mostly drawn with N900 (remotely connected to my PC and running photoshop over the internet).

New buttons and stuff is now done and packages are uploaded to extras-devel. Screenshots in the opening post are also updated. Feedback please :)

I did but still saying 50.4MB even after reboot. used to be 51.4MB lol, so where is my 1MB gone after the installation?

I'm going to try uninstall it and see how much i got after reboot to confirm how much it took in my rootfs

Re: [Announce] D-THEME -serie

I think the theme is great but you should you don't want to make custom icons? Seriously the icons on the standard N900 really is boring because every themes using it. Something different will make your theme standout more :D and could you convert the Win7 Background to your background? I think the fish looks nice on the N900.

Removed the Theme blue and reboot and i got 51.8MB free, installed the Theme Blue and reboot I got 50.9MB free so there is certainly 0.9MB consume by the theme files

Actually I want to keep the icons on app manager standardized (default) 'coz I think it's too confusing if the icons changes every time you change a theme. But this is just a personal opinion of mine :)

Please report the outcome of uninstalling the theme.
Partly-optified themes -bug is indeed very annoying and it touches also other themes around here such as maemo.org & marina.

And about Win7 backgrounds; I'm not going to use copyrighted graphics such as Windows's preinstalled wallpapers. Feel free to crop them to your needs by yourself :)

If I take a look at the non-optified files with that theme I get following amount of files left under /usr/share/themes -folder.
D-THEME Blue: 0,37MB
D-THEME Black: 0,36MB
D-Theme Gold: 0,37MB

I don't know where the rest is coming and as I said before, I have no glue how to fix the optifying bug related probably to maemo-optify -function which is completely written by someone else.
Sorry :-/

This seem like a nasty bug that eating all of our freedom in rootfs.

Re: [Announce] D-THEME -serie

can't you move the non-opt file to another folder in the 2G apps section? and create a short cut to call it instead, this would save quite a good size space

woohoo after uninstalled Maemo.org theme i got 52.5MB left over that seem to be the problem with my root space as well. Are all your themes having this issues? the army theme and stuff

It's the same issue with pretty much all themes released here which are made using this method:
http://tabletui.wordpress.com/2010/0...g-for-dummies/

I don't have enough knowledge on how to change behaviour of maemo-optify "tool" which is used for optification on that method.

Source of d-theme-black is available here if someone wants to take a look how it's built up:
http://maemo.org/packages/source/vie...black/1.0.0.1/

Your army steel theme seem to behave okay. It took only 100kb in my rootfs. But the new one you've made took so much more.

Yeah. There's no logic on which files are left unoptified by maemo-optify.

Re: [Announce] D-THEME -serie

Been trying the updated black and blue versions today and like the improvements! I haven't tried a lot of the other themes that are out, but up to this point I've considered the MER/M5 Blue theme to be the benchmark against which I compare other themes, because it is complete, everything meshes together well, and it looks clean and professional. Your D-SERIES themes are of the same quality in my opinion, with the blue version challenging the MER/M5 theme for the title of "best blue theme for n900". Some thoughts:
-new backgrounds with the bar at the top = awesome and creative use of what would otherwise be blank space!
-new list separator = much better than the dots
-new top menu buttons = great! though the highlight for the close button has that creative shape you've made, even though the close button is always rectangular, so it kind of looks off.
-unlock screen and slider = very nice, I like the big slider button

possible improvements:
-would still like to see version-specific color highlights, alternate text, and button presses. All the grays look like they go well with black version, but what about the other two versions? For the blue version, icon presses, menu button presses, and menu selections would look better in theme-matching blue, as would the several areas that use two different kinds of text (menus, playlists, conversations inbox view, etc). White primary text with blue secondary text in these areas would look better I think.
-The colors in individual conversations could use some attention. Somewhat difficult to read the names, as its dark gray text on dark gray background. I'll refer to the MER/M5 Conversations color scheme here; with its blue names and dates, it looks nice and is easy to read.
-icing on the cake would be theme specific shades on the virtual keyboards. Your keyboards look very nice, though would be even better if they matched their theme version.

@D-livil

Great work... thanks.. but 1 "little bug" I`ve found as well.

When I install a software and then the message of install done come up... this message background don`t fit to the theme colours.
I`ve the blue theme. Maybe you can change this backgrount of the message line as well to a brighter blue or something like that...;)
( at the moment its white or a little bit of yellow included )

Sorry for the short critic ! ;)

Ookay.. there are different text colors for different themes, maybe you forgot to reboot after selecting theme in order to hildon-desktop-engine to load new font color values for secondary and active texts?

List item highligh-color is going to be changed to match the theme's color scheme.

-The colors in individual conversations could use some attention. Somewhat difficult to read the names, as its dark gray text on dark gray background. I'll refer to the MER/M5 Conversations color scheme here; with its blue names and dates, it looks nice and is easy to read.

Conversation window has greys on names and I think it's cool to keep them grey. What brightness level are you using if you can't read the names? I'm using 4/5 and I think it's readable enough since the names aren't the "point" on the conversation window. I want to make the conversation text to stand out compared to the name. Color "matching" to the theme is done with the border color of the conversation bubbles.

-icing on the cake would be theme specific shades on the virtual keyboards. Your keyboards look very nice, though would be even better if they matched their theme version

I'm gonna do this when I have time. This is on the to-do list :)

@PipoXtreme:
Message pop-ups are yellow because I wan't them to be stand out from the basic color scheme. Yellow is also the "default" notification color so I though it would be a good idea to keep that color.

@DaKing:
Didn't understand the "question". You want more transparency or what?

@der_ronny:
The whole point of my icons is that they are rounded. That's the style I have had in my mind since the first theme I've ever made and I'm afraid I won't change that. Nice suggestion though :)

No need to thank :) It was you who spotted those things and they were easy to fix. I think I'm still gonna do a small tweak to conversation name-colors. Opposite's name color is too close the message text color and makes it hard to quickly read just the message. List item highlighting is also a bit too bright compared to rest of the theme.

Grant 2010-02-24 21:13

Re: [Announce] D-THEME -serie

Well, since you're talking about some more color tweaks, I've noticed that the app mgr/clock/media player backgrounds are brighter than the desktop background. Wasn't sure if that was intentional.

yes more transparency and effects to the media player widgit and icons especially ( like the one's on the original blue nokia theme ) is that possible?
