[HowTo] Collection from starters to troubleshooting

Welcome to the HowTo collector!

Thanks, great start.

How about N900 tutorial how-to videos for beginners

But can you make this sticky ? so members can see this in main page, rather than searching for it.

Is there a guide on linux somewhere here. People on these forums tend to assume that we're all linux geeks. I mean, I'm techy, but I have no idea about linux so am always confused(scared?) when I have to put commands into terminal.

I am the same way but when I want specific Linux help, I just google the specific command or try Wikipedia. I don't think there is a reason to reproduce all of the Linux documentation here.

This is a great idea, here is the entry I like and should be made known:

your wish came true

I wont reference the whole wiki here but stuff like FAQ and good threads about how to do something on the cmd-line because there is no GUI for it yet.

Starters wont be extended any more, have a look at wiki.maemo.org for general reference please.

I assume rootfs is the root file system? What is it and why do I want free up some of that space? Sorry to post this question if it has already been posted. I'll search in the meantime.

freeing up rootfs (root filesystem also refered to as 'root' or '/' as it is the actual root of the OS) was or is sometimes needed to get enough space to download PRs, 'optification' was invented to help keeping the root's free space as large as possible. Optification copies files on the 2GB installspace (/opt/ or /home/user/opt/) on the internal eMMC device and replaces the original files with links pointing to the copies instead.

Uhm. Yes there is...

A selection of books on the subject, ranging from beginners-level to intermediate/advanced.
