Automatic Keylock based on built-in proximity sensor

The idea is to use the proximity sensor to detect if the phone is inside a pocket.

Somehow to replace the function of the lock slider with an automatic keylock function so the phone automatically locks when the proximity sensor is being covered, and automatically unlocks when the sensor is uncovered again.

Also, When you make or receive a call, the automatic keylock deactivates.

If you are or was a symbian user, you may recognize PocketSensor that does the same job...

Anyone can do a little applet to allow this handy "feature"?

If you folks think this is a good idea, please vote for this brainstorm at: http://maemo.org/community/brainstor...ximity_sensor/

Doable, proximityd can help if someone decides to implement this. Or if there are more people backing up this idea, I can do that :)

If it works well I would definitely use it!

as a left handed user i would find this impractical to my needs.
(i often have my wrist over the sensor)
but game on for you wrongies!

I dont think that this is good - at least on the N900. When you have the N900 in both hands you easily cover the sensor.

you need to poll the accelometer too. without it the app will probably be only annoying and not helpful at all.

Well?? Annoying or not, I still think people would like to try the app. ( Including me :) )
So what's the development on this?

Maybe this will be more effective if the phone self-locks only if the proximity sensor is covered for a predefined time (say, 5 secs). This way i think accidental locks can be prevented. Hmm?

Yes, I agree about that!
