Nokia closed their bug tracker but you can still vote and comment

I got really mad because they weren't updating the other one and emailed Mr. Elop about it. Luckily, he reads his email, and my complaint was passed on to the right people to make some improvements in this area.[*]
If you have any problem with the phone that could possibly be fixed with a software update please check the new bugtracker and search to see if it's reported already. I think you can at least browse without signing up now, and it's easier to create an account if you need one to add comments or a new bug.
The announcement for this bugtracker was made about a day ago here.

Since some of you might not have used a bugtracker before, basically all you need to know is that when creating a new bug, try to give exact steps to reproduce the problem. If you have the same problem as someone else, you're supposed to "vote" for the bug and not reply useless "me too" comments because every comment gets emailed to lots of people and they really don't want that extra mail. Read this. The search box at the top isn't searching in closed bugs (things they fixed or won't fix) so click on search link and change type to all when doing a search. Keep in mind the people reading it are engineers and programmers, not customer service.

Anyways, try to take advantage of this, judging from past Nokia support we have about a year to get them to fix everything. You can also put feature requests (enhancements) into it. Just try not to annoy the poor Nokia employees reading it with too much junk. After suffering with an ignored bugtracker for the last few months we really don't want to lose it again.

Oh, I should also mention they tried to copy all the bugs from the previous bug tracker to the new one, but if there was anything on the old one you voted for or added yourself to the cc list you will need to do that again. Some comments may have been lost too, so please double check.

[*] Quim Gil says it's a coincidence; they were already working on this new bugtracker for us. So, maybe I didn't help much with my email. I am just glad I don't have to send another.

Yeah, it really should be sticky. I don't want to flood those guys with bugs, but they had a nice vacation on the other bugtracker already :)
Well, the old bugtracker now redirects to the new one. That's good because it's pretty easy to get the old one by accident when using google. Bad because we might have lost some stuff now.

I found another bug today. The profile setup in the drop down menu shows up in double.

It's not something that is easy to reproduce everytime but the bug is there. I noticed it the first time when i was trying to increase the volume for my music while sending an sms at the same time.

The bug only occurs inside apps that can be viewed in portrait or landscape mode (i.e. Messages app). Let's say i'm in the message app in portrait view and I bring down the drop down menu (when you are in landscape you can't bring down the drop down menu). With the drop down menu still down, I rotate the phone to bring the app into landscape view. While rotating (with the dro down menu still down), if I press the volume rocker, the profile setup shows up in double. This does not occur everytime. Sometimes I have to to press and hold one of up and down volume buttons, sometimes I have to press just once.

It took me about 5-6 tries before I was able to reproduce the bug to take the picture and video.

Re: FYI Nokia made us a new public bugtracker, so use it!

I think that sms time thing is not a bug. I had this on many other phones to date. I think the time is sent by the sender and it is not generated at the time of receipt. So a wrong time on the senders phone may be the culprit.

mentioning the volune rocker I think it should re-orient itself on landscape. Right should be louder, like on the N900.

Indeed, this has thrown me off a couple of times, it just doesn't feel intuitive.

Another IMO major annoyance I've noticed with the email client is that when you receive an html message that requires horizontal scrolling, it is next to impossible to move around without the UI thinking that you want to swipe to the next or the previous message.

Re: FYI Nokia made us a new public bugtracker, so use it!

There seems to be a delay before the mail client lets you change scrolling orientation (presumably to make scrolling down easier).

If you look closely at the first and second picture, the timestamp is shown correctly. However, as you can see in the last three pictures, when you are in the Message app, the timestamp not show correctly.

Yes, and now that I noticed it, this annoyance actually only is present when you get in to the email client via the notification on the notification screen. Otherwise all html emails are scaled to fit the screen without the need to scroll through them, and then if you pinch to zoom, it will not move to the next/previous email when zoomed, so then it works like it should.

If you go through the notification to the email, then it's not zoomed to fit the screen for some reason, and if you move to other emails (not just the one that arrived), they're not zoomed either.

Also noticed recently that the swipe motion between screens started distorting the view. Check it out.

This disappeared after a restart but had a cool 'flying' effect. Bug or feature ?

You know what, the RSS reader does that, too. If you hold the phone in one hand, open a RSS feed and try to scroll down with your thumb, you better be careful about the precision of your movement. Even the slightest diversion from the vertical will not scroll down, but switch to the next article.

Once you type this into the web address bar.
ipb.quicksilverscreen.im
or go there you can no longer type anything starting with the letter I after that using swype keyboard in the browser address bar. It will automatically force insert that website and it is not optional. You must switch to the regular keyboard if you want to type any other thing starting with the letter I.

More so about discussing how best to utilize the tracker (so tips here are fine).
Where it can be improved, or if it's working/being-used by Nok devs as it should etc.

It's okay if you want to confirm a bug before reporting it or try to get people to vote for something... Or just discuss responses or lack of respones. My bug went off topic, and the actual on-topic responses are really depressing. You guys should read it, but I don't know if the people from Nokia posting on my bug actually know anything or what.

Guys, be careful with your attitude. I see that someone from Nokia whom I learned to respect very much took up the discussion in https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=96 and tried to patiently explain the reasons behind the decision and why it is unlikely to get fixed at this state.

At some point, you need to accept that decisions have been made and move on. Please don't push us to the point where we (the actual developers) stop caring about bugs reported by the community. I can understand your frustration because you already feel as if we ignore your feedback. Truth is we don't. Whenever you see that the title of a bug got the [cloned] prefix, you will know that us developers get to read your bug report.

We are on your side, really. We also want a good N9. But there are limits of what we can do.

+1 to that! I'd hate to have another bugzilla instance turn silent because users confuse a bugtracker with a discussion forum.

Please vote for my bug. Imported calendar entries of yearly recurring events through bluetooth from one device to N9 results that the imported events display incorrectly as a day later in calendar.
This has been reported in a thread at nokia discussion but can't seem to locate it again.

Um Wot? Settle down. I was just making sure the function of the thread remained intact.
I agree with CG's points about some dialogue being handy to determine if an issue's loggable, or to garner voter interest.
It just didn't seem you were going that way*, I was flying through other posts at the time.
It wasn't a personal attack, no need to get antsy, LOL...

Hi mikhas, the problem is I gave you guys one line of code to change that would save me a huge problem. It sounds so simple, just make and test the change, but all the comments from Nokia are just people guessing that it's going to take too long to test. Some of us actually tried to believe you guys when you said the phone would be supported for a while, so we are a little upset when you suggest stuff like "reporting the bug earlier". I respect Eero too, he remained very professional while others were clearly angry. But I don't know who he is, or if I should give up on this ever being fixed just because he and some other guy say it "probably won't be fixed". I'm hoping they are wrong and am going to try and get some more votes on it instead! Honestly, there is a good chance someone that actually knows how x11 works can prove it's safe to enable this extension, I would think it would only be able to cause problems when it's in use. If your code doesn't try to use it, it's really just up to me to test if it works as expected!

I've never seen that. Are you sure it's not because you're invoking the close gesture by accident? It's sometimes a bit counter-intuitive where you're supposed to swipe so that it doesn't close.
