Solved: From Abiword to PDF

Abiword 2.2.7 plus more_gconv_modules from the erinye.com repository is almost usable. After a lot of fiddling I managed to convert the official letter template of the institution I work for (they pretend me to work in order to give me money, s*it!) in abw format and have it opened in my n800 without crashing (with abiword 2.4.6 from the abisource repository, it kept crashing continuously). I can also edit and save :) :)

Now what I need: I need to convert those abiword docs in pdf, in order to have them sent as faxes by the service I use.

I couldn't figure out how to do that with the available packages on the n800, and furthermore I couldn't find any online service to convert abw files in pdf files. (tried zamzar.com , media-convert.com , and pdfonline.com ).

Any hint?

Re: From Abiword to PDF ?

I haven't used Abiword, but doesn't it create .doc files somehow? There are sites that convert doc to pdf. (Its documentation seems to say it can create doc files.)

The "general" (i.e. x86 a.o.) version does. The N800 version is more of a hit-and-miss affair, meaning that you hit at a *.doc save/conversion and miss.

Re: From Abiword to PDF ?

Solved.
Abiword-2.2.7 has the print command enabled. Just choose to print to filename.ps, and
it will create a filename.ps (postscript) file. Then, the command is_
ps2pdf filename.ps filename.pdf.
I don't know at present if the ps2pdf binary I found on my n800 is there by default or comes from the kde environment by penguinbait.

There is still the problem of bad rendering of images in my tests but this seems enough by now :-)
