My photo isn't working on your list, robthebold.

It isn't working in your post either.

It is a good photo, though I am not convinced it qualifies for "fine photography".

My vote goes to catbus.

Fixed it.
Thats my gripe with fine art, it's just not a well defined genre:rolleyes:

But it created many interesting entries. I have great difficulty deciding, who deserves my vote.

Maybe I will write something about each entry to help myself choose.

#2 saponga
Infinity mirrors are quite nice. Does a b/w photography of one create fine art?

#3 catbus
Caustics of glasses are often seen and certainly interesting, does the focus on it make the picture fine art? Maybe.

#4 mr_pingu
This picture certainly has something, but somehow fine art doesn't fit for me.

#5 taixzo
A city/village, no candidate for me.

#6 robthebold
This flower is beautiful and interesting. Certainly fine art of nature.
Is it fine art to take a picture of it?

#7 mosen
While beautiful pictures, disqualified for me by the rules

#8 tomislav
This picture doesn't seem nice at first look, but the contrast of the grinning abomination to the garbage can certainly has something artsy about it. The background doesn't support the picture though.

#9 rm250j
Quite nice, but no fine art for me.

So... Its catbus vs robthebold vs tomislav.

My vote goes to #3 catbus.

Nice summary, Macros! I also had to go by the process of elimination.

I forgot to add in my previous post: if only robthebold had submitted his second choice as his candidate photo! That would have been my first choice without question.

What you see is an infinity mirror. Its quite simple, but the effect is stunning.

You take a mirror plate and place a raised frame around it.
On the frame you mount a glass plate with a half transparent mirror foil. You know those things you always see in crime shows with the interrogation rooms. Say it reflects 80% of incoming light.
Now you place some bright LEDs in the space between both plates. The light bounces back and fourth between both mirrors and each time some of it escapes trough the partially reflective foil, so you see the light straight from the LEDs, see some reflected one, less reflected twice, till it gets to faint to see.

Because the light has to travel the distance multiple times it creates an illusion of depth

It's just a box with 2 (almost) parallel mirrors inside. We can not see the camera because the are only two small holes through where you can see the "tunnel". ;)

Closest i come at home is with two 90° angled mirror in my bathroom, but you sure always see the "observer" because it is in between the mirrors :D

Yes... that's it: a science centre exhibit.

Re: Camera phone competition July 2017: Fine Art Photography

I like #1 Toad Sage, #2 Age of Cinema, #4 City, #8 Alien Waste in the town (same effect as seeing Doctor Who's booth somewhere: anachronism, doesn't fit the surroundings), and #9 Mythology in the Sky (actually, not only sky... sea looks like the calm before the storm, too). #9 looks too momentous to be called fine, #8 is not exactly something to be put on the wall(paper) and admired (like a piece of art), #4 looks like a scene out of a movie (artistic), #2 is captivating (like a riddle), and #1 is great in its duality (animated being vs inanimate thing; original vs copy, rendition). I still vote for #4, but #1 is very close.

Thank you.
