[Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

5 Attachment(s)
Hello Nerds & Sailors!

After 10 Month of Research and Recherche I found an supplier in China, who has Aigo X86 Tablets. (Jolla Tablet Clone) in stock.

Who don't know yet, Aigo X86 is an ODM Reference Design Tablet.
Jolla took this Reference Design and made small changes for their
Jolla Tablet JT-1501.

Aigo x86 loks, feels and work the same as original Jolla Tablet.

Differences to the original Jolla Tablet:

1) 16GB eMMC (Internal Storage) (Jolla Tablet has 32/64GB)

2.)Display has the same Retina resolution (1536x2048 @325 dpi),
but has another internal connection (eDP) (Jolla Tablet = MIPI)
Unfortunately this is why Aigo x86 Display is not interchangable with Jolla Tablet.

3.) The Cover is black on the sides (Jolla Tablet = white), metalic finish on the backside (Jolla Tablet = black)

All other HW-Specs are the same.

The price is 270,- EUR incl. EU-Shipping.

For the first batch (5 Aigos) there was not necessary to paid tax/customs, but i can't guarantee that will not change in the future.
The total price of 270,- EUR includes the Tablet and Shipping, but doesn't include any taxes. I will inform every buyer, if something changes there.

Thats the reason, why i order the Aigos from China in small batches.

Shipping to Non-EU coutries is also possible, but would be a bit more expensive and will take a bit longer.

If you live outside of the EU, there is a possibility to send the Aigo straight from China to you country. It would be faster, but you will need to flash SailfishOS instead of Android MUI by yourself.
Its not difficult and takes 5-10 Min (on Linux) .
Flashing under Windows / MacOS is also possible, but is a little bit more complex because of the DnX Driver Installation.
I will provide all necessary Files for Flashing.

The Aigo x86 Tablet will be delivered with
latest version of SailfishOS 2.1.0.11 incl. Alien Dalvik.

BTW. The silver button in the MicroUSB-Port is my WSKEN Magnetic Charger adapter, don't wonder ;)

I think Paypal Payment is the safest and the simplest payment method in this case. You pay me via PayPal and i pay the supplier via PayPal.
Every Transaction is protected for an amount of 45 Days.

Aigo x86 will be delivered in approx. 3 Weeks after Payment.
After the Tablet will arrive me in Germany, i reflash it with SailfishOS and send it via DHL to you. Tracking-Nr. will be provided via email after shipping.

The Amount of the Tablets is limited, its depending on how much Tablets the supplier have in stock.

If you are interested, write me direct email to:

Thank you very much, this is a very interesting discovery.
Do you think there'll be costom duties?

So these changes messed up the tablet project and was what jolla spent millions for?

Anyway, good catch! I dont need a jPad in disguise but you might find a few tablet hungry guys around somewhere.

We got alredy first batch of tablets now, and had no customs problems till today. There is of course no warranty that it will not change in the future, but for today - we had no problems so far.

Maybe... :)

Personally, i see no huge difference between the Aigo x86 Tablet Display and Jolla Tablet Display.

The Sharp display in Jolla Tablet is more bright than the LG Display in the Aigo x86.
All other things are similar IMHO.

I haven't followed the tablet since Jolla pulled theirs, so don't remember... Does this tablet have a memory card slot?

Yes, its exact the same HW and Design like Jolla Tablet. Only a smaller eMMC 16GB and different Display vendor (But same resolution)

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

I have received my tablet some days ago (15 days between payment and delivery) in Germany and would like to share some feedback with you. First of all: thanks a lot, explit!

Delivery was really fast and everything went very smoothly. And I have been informed about every step the tablet took.

I have been one of the backers on the crowdfunding (one of those who didn't receive a tablet) and I thought that I would never have the chance to work and play with this tablet. Now that I earn one, I am really convinced that it would have pushed Jolla's marketshare forward. What a pity that they didn't make it...

Anyway, it works very nice! One drawback is the enormous battery consumption when in use and when in standby. Alien dalvik also works nicely, just as it used to do on my original Jolla phone. (But hey, if we buy and use one of the SFOS-devices, there will hopefully come the day when we don't need it anymore).
Explit gave me the good advice to buy one of those WSKEN magnetic charger cables you can see in the pictures and so far I think this is worth the price as the USB plug might be a weak point.

So all in all everything works as expected and I will happily say goodbye to my aged iPad now :)

Thanks for your work on this, explit!

Thanks also for you, dlas.revo!
I'm very happy to help all community members to get the Tabby.
I will also support Chen in his Tablet Campaign. Sailfish is not very well adapted on the i486 Architecture. We see a lot of weakness points:

- Power consumption
- Less Software than on armv7hl
- Adaptation bugs

I think, all this points can be polished out and i hope if more sailors would get the chance to get a tablet - all Sailfish community will profit of it.

I remember reading somewhere that the excessive power consumption is the same if Android is installed, so the problem is not exclusive to Sailfish at least.

Thats true for all SailfishOS Devices. As soon, as Alien Dalvik is enabled - the battery drains much faster

pichlo 2017-05-03 08:22

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

@explit, I think what @nthn meant was that the same tablet running Android without Sailfish exhibits a similar battery drain.
We know that Sailfish is not that great at saving power but in this case the culprit seems to be the hardware.

Ah, ok. Didn't understood that.
Thanks for correcting.

I don't know, how the battery consumption is with stock Android Firmware (MIUI).
I think Baytrail Atom CPUs are no Power-Saving monsters at all.
BUT: I had a ThinkPad 8 for 2 weeks
Same Baytrail CPU and Windows 10.
The battery drain was minimal. Standby in idle was 7-10 days.
I never seen that under Sailfish....

I'm not sure that's true [edit: I suppose I should say I'm not sure it's as simple as that] - I get really good battery life on my Jolla 1 (much better than approximately equivalent Android devices), and I've read many other people saying the same thing.

It's a real puzzle, because obviously many people find the exact opposite...

Yes, that's what I meant: Android the OS, not Alien Dalvik.

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

So, if I understand it correctly what you are saying: it is an issue that cannot be resolved, as it is a design failure of the hardware?

What I see in Aida64 is, that all 4 cores are running at least at minimum clock.speed and don't go to sleep, while at my Fairphone core 2 and.3 are often sleeping .

Yes, i can confirm. on Aigo Tablets the CPU Cores are never sleeping. Since HW is the same, i think its a Software problem.
The Power Management settings should be ajusted somewhere...

Sent from my Fairphone 2 using Tapatalk

From my experience Jolla Tab does the same. They are the same product anyway... Definitely power management related issue

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

So I guess there is no real chance that this issue will be resolved anytime soon. Jolla isn't interested anymore, so we have to live with it, right?
It's a pity, but nevertheless , I like SFOS really very much on the tablet.

Maybe not Jolla, but somebody else will solve this issue.
When there will be a big amounts of Aigo / Yoyota Tablets in the community, some clever guy/girl will solve this problem.

I will be in contact with all SailfishOS Community Members, who are working on Baytrail HW Adaptation.

Lets ask TheKid if this problem is also there on Onda Tablet.

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

So i checked again on original Jolla Tab:
Same problem like on Aigo:
CPU Cores are always active and don't sleep at all. :(

So it's Adaptation Problem

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

Found an option in Bios to change the CPU Settings from
"Maximum Performance" to "Maximum Battery Life" which will add a bit more Standby Time.

On Jolla Tablet the BIOS is newer than on Aigo x86, so enter the Bios Setup is possible by Hitting F2 on the Keyboard connected to USB via USB Host/OTG Adapter.

On Aigo x86 its a bit tricky: I didn't find a way to use USB-keyboard in Bios, but there is possible to enter the Bios Setup by pressing Vol+ just after the Jolla Logo is showing.
Afterwards you need to use Vol+/Vol- Button to navigate in the Bios-Setup.

How you deliver aliendalvik to that device? Did you just installed the package from the Jolla tablet and it worked out?

I use the Jolla Tablet Image. Alien Dalvik is included in this package. The Hardware is fast the same like Jolla Tablet.

I checked battery drainage of my Aigo.

Had flashed Aigo using ExPLIT's instructions.

1. Without touching BIOS:
Airplane mode, Android on: 100->39 %, 5.2 %/h
Airplane mode, Android off: 100->19 %, 5.3 %/h

2. BIOS, Max Battery:
Airplane mode, Android on: 100->30 %, 5.4 %/h
Airplane mode, Android off: 100->61 %, 5.2 %/h

Looks like BIOS setting does not have any effect, nor Android support.

Re: [Announce] Aigo x86 Tablet 16GB with SailfishOS

My Aigo with SFOS Jämsänjoki does not remember WLAN passwords. Or at least will not connect with earlier given password, signal strength is zero by the indicator. When toggling WLAN off/on, and selecting "connect to Internet" it finds WLAN (listing it as a new one), and after giving the password, it works without a problem.

Anyone having similar problems? Any way to fix?

Hello again!

For all people, who are frustrated with Jolla Tablet and second time with Youyota Tablet and still are looking for a Sailfish Tablet - there is a solution:

Aigo x86 Tablet. Its an Android Tablet with the quite same Hardware like Jolla / Yoyota Tablet.

Anything is needed is just flash SailfishOS on it.

Payment via PayPal is possible. I bought 10 Tablets from this supplier and all of them were delivered to Gemrany and it was not nessesary to pay extra fees.

For all who still want it:
