Video call with N810
 
Hello,

I took this N810 a week ago, and i am totally new to this maemo platform. so can any one help me on these issues below :

1) Is video calling is possible on N810 - and with which application ?
does it work with skype ?
Currently i could make only voice calls on skype.
if skype does not work, is there an application that can use googletalk for video calls ?


2) how can i use google voice with the dialcentre - it always asks me for a callback no.
and i am not able to find the right place even on googlevoice to register that callback no.


3) I find N810 too slow in launching any applications - how can i enhance the speed.

4) How can i delete the games which are preinstalled in the N810. I do not use much of gaming applications. I just would like to increase some space.

5) Heard that N810 has inbuilt GPS -
Is there a good GPS application to run it
there are so many in the installable applications - which one is the easiest and consumes less space.
i found this freemap-il but it does not look like in english...

I am totally new to this maemo, but want to explore, i have searched a lot of forums and threads on maemo, but could not find clear answers...

hence posting this new one.........

2) Since Gizmo shut down, you need to get a sip account.

Not skype, but it does work with XMPP (jabber) and possibly SIP accounts.

Not sure about google's specific service, http://blog.barisione.org/2011-06/broken-gtalk-calls/ casts some doubt.

thanks for your info...
I started installing for the diablo turbo..
but i am stuck at the first step itself
updating the firmware - the sudo flasher command
sudo dpkg -i <flasher-package-name>
why does it ask for a pwd here ?

You 'wish' install .deb packages better.

You should install CSSU first.
Then follow Diablo Turbo first post instructions TO THE LETTER

I successfully reached the rootsh,
then got the ccsu repository enabled and unlocked.

but now i am stuck at this command

from #home/user
when i enter
> cd /media/mmc1/dt
i get error as "cant cd to media/mmc1/dt
why is this error ?
am i doing anything wrong ?

It sounds like you skipped this part of the installation instructions:

Video call works with the built-in software on the N810 using google talk... I gave a N810 to my mother for that purpose and have been using for a few years now. The limitation is that the N810 will only do video calls to another N810, N800 or N900.

Skype video does not work on the N810 and probably never will. It does work on the N900.

otherwise i really like this N810...

2) and how can i delete this "gizmo" from "communication" option.
since gizmo does not work any longer i would like the application to be removed.

3) I am unable to remove the unwanted games like "mahjong" ....is there a way to remove it from applications ?

Not the case, it's just that both sides need to have common codecs. Video calls work fine between the N810 and empathy for instance.

You can move around the icons in the applications menu:
Control-panel->Panels->Applicatons->Organize
Then drag and drop

If you just want to remove the icons from the menu, you can move the desktop files somewhere else, or even delete them (but then you wouldn't be able to restore them)

It is even possible to uninstall all the games packages, but that would uninstall the osso-software-version-* package, and since you don't seem to understand the system internals, I advise you against it.

Hello,

I am not able to connect my tablet to PC via USB. and when i check on the USB networking option in the control panel section it gives me an error as "module insertion failed". what does this mean

did you enable virtual memory (control panel > memory > virtual)?
this will keep the device from connecting via usb

Reread your post. wondering if you installed usbeth app. if so you also need to install usbcontrol for it to work.
first use usb control to set device to host mode
then attempt usb networking

never tried this myself ... just read instructions for apps

I believe the 66.35.236.25 address stopped working. I have since updated mine with 64.14.59.165. So, your commands would be:

$ gconftool --type string --set /system/osso/supl/agps_srv_address "64.14.59.165"

$ gconftool --type string --set /system/osso/supl/slp_address "64.14.59.165"

actually, i was able to connect n810 to laptop the first time, but when i am trying to connect the USB port again, my laptop does not recognize the drives from n810. and from the USB networking on the n810 i get this error message "module insertion failed".

Hello,

but the wiki entry link in the thread does not seem to be working.
am i missing anything ?
also after installing the file from link:

do i need to run any code in xterm ?
the USB networking from control panel still gives me the same error
"Module Insertion has failed"
pls let me know what needs to be done to fix this error ?

Do you know of a client for the Mac that allows video calls with the N8x0? I have looked exhaustively but been unable to find something that worked.

I'm the wrong person to ask about Macs, but it looks like empathy at least is available via both fink and macports.
