Emergency. my device is completely frozen. even power off switch does not work Edit:problem solved

Hi guys,

please advise.while testing easy-debian and openoffice my device froze. I can't even power it off (i think holding the power on/off switch for a longer time should usually work?). I see only one option: remove the battery. Bad Idea? Any other idea?

Thanks,
ste

BTW: Yes, I am panicing:rolleyes:

edit: I just did it. Everything fine

remove battery it wont be a problem at all..

its no different from force power off

if your phone doesnt reboot- it wont be down to taking out the battery

Nota bene: cutting power is only a last resort sort of alternative. Filesystem corruption is not a pretty thing.

Next time try opening/closing the lens cover.

This manoeuvre has recovered my n900 from unresponsiveness quite a few times.

Yes, my N900 froze this evening - something in the web browser. Opening the lens cover generated enough of an interrupt to unfreeze.

The browser window I had open was gone when I looked at the task manager.

Interestingly, the menu that appears when you hit the power button appeared as soon as the device unfroze - as if it was queued to display, but couldn't because something was blocking.

All the above was without anything from extras-testing or extras-devel installed. But I doubt I could reproduce the scenario clearly enough to file a bug.

Which is also why people should have regular backups.
