Announce: qmlreddit (extras-devel)

If you thought nothing could be cooler than qreddit, think again. qmlreddit pushes the state-of-the-art in n900 reddit reading applications even further, actually showing thumbnails, score and comment count and being a smoother, more colourful experience overall.

Updates to the application will roll in regularly, and this should be considered to supersede qreddit (which is unlikely to be developed furher, at least by myself).

UPDATE:

In the interest of making the app more "mainstream" (I got feedback that it's a bit too geeky to have mass appeal, at least as far as the default channels go ["programming", "science"...]).

Improvements:

- Now you have enough channels out of the box, so there is no need to learn vi to add those channels manually. If you are upgrading delete ~/.qreddit to get those default channels instead of your old stuff.

- More popular channels added ("sports", "news", "music" and other stuff appreciated by wider audience).

- Option to enable NSFW ( "adult" / pornographic ) channels. It will have a better age verification later, now it just goes ahead and enables it.

Nice, but Flickr tells me: "This photo is private."

Awesome, but it would be really great if you could address the biggest deficiency of qreddit: you can't log in (to get your personal subreddits, vote on and hide stuff).

Support for comments would be great too.

I will be adding these features later (as time allows), possibly already during the winter holiday period.

As I said this application (unlike qreddit) will be receiving regular updates - developing it is more fun, and I need a QML pet project :-).

I now got the login stuff working against the server, getting "my reddits" works. Voting shouldn't be a big problem either.

There isn't any UI for this functionality yet, and these features won't be published to extras-devel before the whole chain works. This is just a heads up that it's not far off.

V 0.0.15:

Login now works, you get your personal subreddits and you can vote.

The UI experience is not the cleanest one around, but it's functional already.
