Hello, I just purchased a Nokia n950

Hello everyone, I had the luck of get a sealed Nokia n950

https://i.imgur.com/OM2RSUf.jpg

I'm reading this website for long time, but I just get a lot of topics, guides, links, wiki entries with a lot of content. So I don't know from where start. I will put a list of things that I've found and doubts that I have about.

1- I'm interested about the possibility of re-flash if I install something like nitroid or other OS and want back to the original OS.

My phone OS version is: meego 1.2 Harmattan 1.2011.15-7_PR_RM680 , but I can't find any mirror or guide to re-flash a n950.

2- Guides and topics about how update the device that I found::

[HOWTO] Comprehensive Firmware Flashing Guide for N9 :
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=82693

-This guide seems outdated, and he do not explain the reason or advantages of flashing the device. Most of links are broken.

Nokia N9 in 2017, what works? what doesn't?

I readed the topic and I found many links, tips , and recommendations but I do not understand the purpose of them:

-What is this trusted repository ?

[Aegis] easy to use aegis-install hack
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=90750
-What is exactly this Aegis used for ?

https://wiki.maemo.org/N9QTweak
-It have a link to the topic for download the tweak but it says : N950 This script work properly only on LEAKED PR 1.3 and base/blanco theme !!!

https://openrepos.net/content/karinz...na-multi-touch

-I'm interested about:

4- This n97 battery should be compatible with the n950 ?

N950 is so much rarer than N9 that there are less resources available. I think the flasher images are different for it and the latest N950 image is indeed 1.2 (If I remember correctly there was an unofficial 1.3 but someone having N950 might be able to clarify)

Advantages of flashing the device; well if you break something badly then it is of course necessary... also installing other OS'es or modified kernels requires flashing.

Aegis is the security framework in Harmattan N9(5)0 devices. It is used to disallow installing non-nokia-signed software and firmware in the device.
There are several ways to neuter aegis, either using security vulnerabilities to get around it or flashing the device with an openmode kernel. Both have theit upsides and downsides.

I'd imagine you should heed the warning, so do not use that on Harmattan 1.2

I'm afraid you won't be able to have those... well there was a firefox port with newer features IIRC but it was sluggish if I remember correctly

Re: Hello, I just purchased a Nokia n950

Yolu may find an updated browser from some forums (I found chromium browser 53 for odroid) and get whatsapp web working. I managed to use it with N900 but it was through Easy Debian chrooted image and was very slow. Had to be left open on easy debian side once it had loaded itself cause otherwise it was useless cause it took so much time to load. And the debian image had to be on a fast sdcard formatted ext3.

I also managed to use telegram web with N900 with some browser but it takes 10 minutes to generate the decryption key and the browser did not save the key so it was not really usable. There is a telegram app here on the forum for N900 from a member. Don't know what it would need to be able to use such with N950.

And some are using telegram through pidgin messenger but I found it very slow and as a default it loads the history from a month and depending on how many contacts you have it takes a lot of time. With N900 atleast one should change the settings that only last couple of days history is loaded and only few contacts on the list.

Re: Hello, I just purchased a Nokia n950

2 Attachment(s)
So I found on my hdd the N950 Mini Reflash Guide from thp.
His hosted html side is down. So I will attach a local copy from me.
I will also attach a firmware extract script to optain the emmc image from latest offical OCF firmware.

My extracted emmc image is 172.719,37 kb with md5sum 09dcf0ef8e83dc410e8f1a13b2d16715
It is from this firmware Win_OCF_02-6_RM680-RM680-OEM1.exe extracted with 7zip. So the script is not mandatory needed.

If you going to use the attached files remove the .txt extension.

Re: Hello, I just purchased a Nokia n950

When you looking for software, you should install first the N9 RepoMirror explained in some link you posted.

And on openrepos you can select an application category then a drop down box appears there you could select the application platform to harmattan_app. Then the application get filtered and you could choose some which you would like to try.

You could find also application for the N9(N950) at some russian side.

https://allnokia.ru/symbsoft/n9/

You could find some apps here not all are available.
http://n9-apps.com/

But you could also use some old ovi links with archive.org.
Here an example:

1. you need to find old links
https://nokiapoweruser.com/widget-ru...t-nokia-store/

Widget manager would be https://store.ovi.com/content/302071
2. Paste the link into archive.org and add /download.

Code:

https://store.ovi.com/content/302071/download
https://web.archive.org/web/*/http:/...08669/download

In 2015 I think most files got saved. In this year you will see a green dot with a number. Click on it then it will come a redirect message, which looks like an error wait some time and the download should start.

I forget. Does the N950 have 4G? Are calls/data on 2G or3G? Thanks!
