N810 vs UMID M1

Hi,
I'm thinking about buying the N810, but I'm not sure if the M1 would be better. Of course the M1 normally comes with Win XP and the N810 uses Linux but this is not important for me. I'm interested in, the possibility to use the N810 for surfing and openoffice and so on.
I hope you can help me!

According to the spec sheet shown at the end of the vid linked from engadget :http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/23/u...dled-on-video/
the M1 will be available with linux.
It actually looks pretty interesting, a few of important things seem to be 'options' such as 3g and camera. I may have to keep an eye on it though.

i smell midinux or eeepc style xandros, not ubuntu remix...

in other words, outdated software, and bothersome incompatiblites or complete lack of (easy) update ability...

basically, turning linux into a kind of "featurephone" firmware, rather then a proper os...

It is not a competitor for me unless the battery life competes with N810, N900, and I doubt an Atom device can do that. I'm ready to be proven wrong though.

while battery life may be less, your browsing speed and document editing would be a LOT faster and smoother with an Atom device

Re: N810 vs UMID M1

that would depend on the documents edited and tge pages visited.

also, by waiting to see what nokia comes up with using omap3, the gap will shorten...

So it takes long to open web sites or documents and so on?

I don't find it an issue-regarding websites speed.
It's quite enjoyable.
Docs...different story...
Out of the Box N810 has no Doc/XLS reader/editor.
The good news is you can install EasyDebian (thank you Qole) and you get full bloawn Open Office.
It is slow, but the list of accessible formats makes up for it.

Just do a search on EasyDebian on this forum

Good luck with your decision.:D
