Nokia rolls out Qt SDK for unified mobile developer experience

"Today sees the release of the Nokia Qt SDK, a single easy-to-use software development kit (SDK) for Symbian and Meego application development. Developers can now develop, test and deploy native applications for Nokia smartphones and mobile computers. The beta version of the SDK is available for download from today, ready for developers to kick off development for new devices including the just announced Nokia N8
The Nokia Qt SDK has two core themes at its heart: developer productivity and distribution. The SDK comes with a complete suite of tools, including APIs designed to enable rapid creation of robust applications thus increasing developer productivity. Further, the SDK enables developers to build an application once, and recompile it for either a Symbian or MeeGo based device. What’s more, the supported platforms include future versions of Symbian and Meego, as well as the installed base of Symbian S60 (versions 3.1 to 5.0) and Maemo 5 devices. This means Nokia Qt SDK offers a huge range of distribution options for application developers

...wow - so let the applications come!
Hopefully Nokia will start porting their own applications also - so we could get a nice OVI maps app - and Nokia just has to use the compiler switch.

In theory now all Nokia applications developed for Symbian should come to Maemo/MeeGo too. Let's hope!

Re: Nokia rolls out Qt SDK for unified mobile developer experience

if i install this one:

http://qt.nokia.com/downloads

and then:

Qt SDK for Windows* (287 MB)

how can i then target maemo? or do on device debugging on the N900?

should i also download:

Qt libraries 4.6.2 for Maemo 5 (161 MB)

(and then all the others that are mentioned in the readme thats inside that package???)

it must be simpler then that....

1 Attachment(s)
...nice - Simulate target devices -
But they call it "Maemo Harmattan" - I thought they would call it "MeeGo" to avoid additional confusion...

Is it only possible to use the Qt editor that comes with this SDK for writing and compiling cpp code?
