N9 Specs Leaked (maybe)

http://www.noknok.tv/2010/08/23/noki...-specs-emerge/

"So, how do you fancy the Nokia N9 (RM-680) coming with a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, running MeeGo Version 1 and even packing in 64GB of memory? Sounds like a little bit of wishful thinking but if the Nokia N9 (RM-680) is to make an impact this could well be what it needs to succeed.

If the stats that have turned up on a Chinese forum are to be believed, these are the base specs of the Nokia N9 (RM-680). What’s more, we can look forward to the 4-inch screen having a WVGA resolution, while the device will be powered by the Qualcomm 1GHz QSD8250 CPU.

Other specs of the Nokia N9 seem to suggest 512MB of RAM and 1GB NANDM, along with 64GB of internal storage and the option to add up to 32GB via microSD card.

When it comes to connectivity, you can expect IEEE 802.11b/g/n?HSPA+ and Bluetooth 2.1 and while the leaked images have yet to rock up a HDMI slot, the leaked specs suggest video recording at 720p@30fps, so the option to out-source your movies would seem likely on the finished Nokia N9."

Given Nokia have gone on the record stating that the Harmattan device will be running an OMAP3, a switch to a Qualcomm CPU would be quite major (and so, I think, unlikely)

I truly hope Nokia wouldn't put QSD8250 inside N9(neither do i think they will do so). I'm still expecting OMAP36xx from N9 but that will be seen.

Nokia and Qualcomm do have some projects together that are supposed to be coming out 2H this year so we will see. All of them are talking mostly about Symbian, but then most of these announcements came before nobody from Nokia even talked openly about maemo 5 being for phones and majority of people here thought that the Maemo 5 would not be for phones.

Qualcomm's deal focuses on developing UMTS mobile devices, initially for North America, that will be based on the S60 software on Symbian OS, running on the San Diego, California- based chip maker's latest MSM7xxx-series and MSM8xxx-series chipsets targeting wireless broadband.

There's also talk about the ST-Ericssons U8500 that have surfaced lately again in the tech blogs. Nokia announced this partnership early 2009.

Quote:

Nokia and ST-Ericsson announced they are cooperating to provide the Symbian Foundation with a reference platform based on ST-Ericsson’s U8500 single chip. The chip, which combines ST-Ericsson’s well-proven application processor and state-of-the-art HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) Release 7 modem, will enable the wide adoption, across the industry, of feature-rich, multimedia 3G Smartphones.
Quote:

The chip is the first device enabling full High-Definition 1080 progressive-scan camcorder functions. With its combination of a dual-core SMP processor and its high-end 3-D graphics accelerator, the chip delivers a unique PC-like Web-browsing experience on next-generation Smartphones. The U8500, which relies on the Nomadik application-processor technology, integrates the latest SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing) ARM dual-Cortex A9 CPU in a high-performance, low-power and cost-optimized platform supporting Symbian Foundation software.

Would be suprised if it had 64Gb onboard.

Unfortunately, looking at the battery from the prototype, its a new battery Nokia has designed at 1320 mAh.

Can a much faster CPU run on such a low mAh and still have decent battery life? Its mAh about the same as the n900 and is barely acceptable.

Doesnt the battery point to the "customer care about the CPU as long as it works and is fast.. lets save money" approach.

Indeed. It's probably the most revealing part that this is not real including the snapdragon part. Samsung have not yet given S AMOLED to any other manufacturer and looking at Galaxy S and Wave selling like hot cakes i don't think Samsung is in hurry to give it and might not even have the capacity for it.
Plus Nokia very rarely gets it's hw parts from Samsung.

As a Galaxy S owner i can also say while the screen is nothing else than amazing on videos it got the same problem that Nexus ones AMOLED got where the actual resolution is not 860x480 and that really shows when you are looking at lots of text especially on this 4" screen.

Who's "We", and why would "We" need a dual-core cpu?

Re: N9 Specs Leaked (maybe)

Nokia have already confirmed that the N8 is using a second generation AMOLED (60% brighter than that on the N85 etc.) and that it's not Super AMOLED, and given the supply problems surrounding SAMOLED I doubt Nokia would want to hitch a ride on that technology for a lunch planned in just a few months.

Switching from OMAP3 to Qualcomm for what is the next Maemo release is crazy - this next release is not MeeGo even though it may be branded as such.

64GB internal sounds nice but perhaps unnecessary as 32GB would be sufficient as external storage is available.

So as crail says, this just sounds like someone has mad up a list of BS and called it a spec list for blog hits. At least he got the screen size right at 4 inches, that's about all that is right! :)
