Re: so called "silent sms"
to not missunderstand me i only want to know if it is possible to get a note if your phone recives such an sms

Re: so called "silent sms"
Not so sure I believe this, is it a creditable source?
I don't think 'they' would use a sms to track phones, the towers already know where the phones are... unless it's a sms to the tower and not to the phone. |
Re: so called "silent sms"
it is a trusted side and the articel is based upon a governmental note so it is quit true & realistic and done 250.000 times in only one "state" of germany

Re: so called "silent sms" or the ultimat 1984's mod
Apparently the "silent SMS" is part of the GSM standard. However the receiver does NOT reply with the GPS coordinates (unless there's some special "app" running on the SIM card).
This simply lets the sender know that the receiver is ON (received message), but nothing else. Obviously the authorities can then get the location from the operator, but that has always been possible. |

Sorry for necrothreading here, but there was a discussion about these SMSes on Maemo's IRC channel just today and maybe someone wants to talk about it again? :) #rampantparanoia |
