Buy a N900 for a N810/N800 user

I was a happy user of both N8xx models but I lost my last Maemo4 device and now on the one hand I am thinking in buy a N810 again, install all the software I had installed, including the linux distribution; easydebian.
and on the other hand I could move to a more advanced device such as N900, N9 is out of my scope because has no keyboard.

My question is,

do you think N900 can replace a Maemo4 internet tablet?
should I consider to have both devices at same time?

What about GarnetVM for emulate Palm applications;which I was using in N8xx?

Is possible to execute Nokia maps?
is there any way to emulate symbian apps?
what about java? (it was missing in Maemo4)

I would appreciate your ideas and suggestions, I would like to resist to move to Android but Nokia is not helping me...

Hola buenas.
I never used maemo 4 but i can get the ball rolling with what i know.
Nokia maps yes works well.. I think some ppl are working on 3d and voice support... But checkout sygic.

Java yes.. Jre works.. Some ppl are working on port j2me now.

Everything else.. I doubt works :(
but n900 has its own perks and very its a compitent phone..
U'll love it :)

nokia n900 can replace n810 as long as you dont mind smaler screen, smaler keyboard and weak plastic thingie instead of that nice large metal "stand"

garnet works i think
for java you have oracle/sun j2se and openjdk(plus basic j2me)
nokia maps work although are a bit outdated
no symbian emulation

Thanks mates.. then N900 looks like a competent choice.

Other question, I will buy one from second hand market, is easy/cheap unlock one locked phone? or should I buy an expensive unlocked?

It is a pity Nokia chose the wrong way....

Un saludo!

We often see them go between £75 - £150 on ebay depending on condition. There was also a guy on the buy+sell board wanting offers for his UK model today.

Plus... With the N900 you will get to enjoy Preenv too. Gamey goodness :D

AFAIK, there are no sim-locked N900's in existence. You can use it with every operator You feel fancy.
