Is possible to install maemo 5 in a nokia n950?
 

Hi, I have got a nokia n900 , but I am thinking to buy a nokia n950, but here is my question,Is possible to install maemo 5 in a nokia n950?.

Probably, just because Harmattan suxx big time. and N950's Harmattan (sub)version suxx even more.

With a modified kernel o n900 firmware modified perhaps??, I lovely maemo 5, I tried android 2,3,4 , android 4.xx and... it is good, but maemo 5 with apps/games are incredible, and n950 are a n900 more stronger, for example I tried n900 with nemo meego,ubuntu lxd,debian,archilinux and other but..... more cpu/ram needed, n950 have it. N900 is very funny for me, and n950 could be better jejje.

Actually it is nice and even better for N950 to have Fremantle than Harmattan, as it has better cpu and ram compared with N900 and Fremantle will have (Much) better use of HW keyboard and landscape slider.

My question, since Fremantle can be ported to Neo900, can the similar stuff run on N950? I really miss Fremantle since I lost my N900...

My attempt at doing this failed on HardFP/SoftFP incompatibility.

Fremantle is SoftFP build, Harmattan is HardFP build.
So N950 3D drivers built for Harmattan's HardFP do not work in Fremantle SoftFP env. And Hildon Desktop requires accelerated graphics to be usable.

There are possible avenues to work around this, but these are so time consuming, that I gave up.

I think that if the Neo900 project succeeds, that would address the wish for Fremantle running on a better spec'd device (except for the Camera).

That said, it would be interesting to see if the developments of the past few months significantly increases the feasibility of porting Fremantle to other devices...
