I also encountered this problem: simply download the .deb of busybox-power on your N900, and install it with
dpkg -i busybox-power-blabla.deb
Then it was ok for me.

Like Estel, i would drop "significant updates to existing applications" too, IMHO.
For the ports, it's quite difficult to have an opinion, as the work required can vary a lot - porting a Qt app...
