Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
If you are learning a new application for electronics, I need to recommend Kicad. It's open source and has not limitations unlike Eagle. Eagle limits your possibilities related to commercial projects...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
Is the goal to have a TOH for mass production or something that people can build only for them (by e.g. ordering PCBs, ICs, and 3D prints and applying some soldering)?
In either way there can...

Re: Designing and building QWERTY OtherHalf
I'm not a kernel developer so I'm a bit guessing here.
To my understanding many peripherals need a kernel driver and a configuration for the hardware connection. ADP5589 was mentioned in this...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
Cool!
I've just received my first 3D print. I wonder if I should tear my n900 apart and start building something around it (PCBs and MCUs I'm already familiar with) :)

Re: Ideal keyboard design and configuration
Should there be a separate thread about constructing a keyboard that doesn't require mass production?
It's easy and cheap to get a PCB from Itead, a 3D printed casing from Shapeways but how about...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
Somebody should start thinking about the mechanics. Can an individual buy a single keyboard from somewhere and attach it to a self made PCB and 3D print the cover around them? Or do we need to 3D...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
I use Windows only for gaming. With STM32 I'm using open source tools only and they work very well, especially with the newer boards.
I guess there's no reason for them to provide different...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
I googled a bit and those (some no-brand clones?) seem to be still available from china quite cheaply. Might not be a bad idea to use something like that instead of trying to do that part DIY-style.

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
Any modern mcu with enough legs will do. I would probably go with STM32L as I'm already familiar with that.
The interrupt line is something that Jolla must provide in addition to I2C to the Other...

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
If there's only I2C, then no.
In I2C only master (i.e. the phone in this case) can initiate communication. Hence if there is not separate interrupt line that the other half can use to notify the...

That might be an easy solution serving at least the basic functionality.

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
How about the mechanical side. What kind of buttons would/could there be connecting the pads on the PCB? I tried quickly googling for general solutions but couldn't find anything useful.

Re: Building OtherHalf keyboard prototype
I've been playing a bit with ST's STM32x chips and started dream about having a qwerty built around it when I bumped into this thread.
For PCB designs I really recommend Kicad. It's open source,...

Re: What's your N900 uptime?
My final uptime was 571d. It was idle until I enabled WIFI to get daily uptime recorded to net. After a few weeks with WIFI I realised it had shutdown at some point.
I never turned it on again.

Command-line sharing plugin for N9(50)
A bit off-topic as this concers N9(50), not N900 but I finally managed to get the first version of the sharing plugin working for Harmattan:
