I just manually updated 3 or 4 packages on my phone with those from extras-testing, without enabling any repo. Facebook widget and picture sharing works just fine now.

Try changing "Terminal=true" to "Terminal=false" if no terminal is needed, also change the name to something else besides topx (that's just in the example) in the file as well as for the filename...

I updated via wifi without any problems, so it should be ok. But if you have any test or dev repositories activated: deactivate them. For wifi: plug your N900 in a charger to be sure it doesn't run...
