The max res is 848x480 I think, so it will support that vertical res of 480 pixels exactly. I've been using 720x304/384, etc., from DVDs so that it looks good also playing on PS3 on my TV (720p). TV...

Shoutcast streams fine on the N900 and re-sends over the FM transmitter fine as well. Not sure about capturing the broadcast except using the 3.5mm jack.

Have you tried just following the Quick guide to get a working H264 MP4 file - i.e., not using the presets? I would be surprised if it didn't work, as that is what I am using. It is based on "Normal"...

Yeah, exactly. Most of them come out at around 700-800MB for me with MP4/H264, but the quality is better (I think!).

H264 in an MP4 or MKV container will play perfectly on the N900 and is definitely superior with smaller size and better quality for a whole load of reasons. AVI is long deprecated, hence why...

I think having one single encoding guide for the N900 is best as there will be no confusion.
The manual one http://wiki.maemo.org/Manual_video_encoding - should really be called command-line...

Yup, and there is almost no reason for it not to be possible in Skype in the N900, it will definitely be a big step up for mobile VOIP.

I have a pretty foolproof setup now, to encode the original PAL DVD widescreen at full resolution (720x304 or whatever), H264, 25fps and AAC audio into a perfectly playable with excellent quality MP4...

I did try it but it gave an odd error of flashing video when using MKV with Xvid or MPeg4(ffmpeg) video, but it does play the slow video MKV (with H264) fine, although it only picks the first audio...
