This problem appears to me when my sent/received sms's cross 8000. It kept on continuing from the past 4-5 months and last week i flashed the EMMC and now everything is back to normal.

Thats really good post, but what i do is this:
1. Use the Battery to the full extend
2. Change the battery on the fly.(without restarting the phone)
3. Process takes exactly 7 seconds or even...

i always change my hotswap my batteries and sim without resetting or switching off.
Only possible with an N900 \m/

You said you used Vanilla. That is used for flashing the eMMC. Use the FIASCO image.

does anyone know how to restart hildon-home?? killing it from the terminal will work but all the widgets will be lost.
Rebooting works but, that would not be an appropiate solution. :(
