Re: [Announce] git-1.7.9 for fremantle

Squueeeee! (That was a high-pitched squeel of joy, just to be clear.) You're awesome.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

1. "ifconfig" and "iwconfig" are two completely different programs. iwconfig is not even in our busybox's build, power or stock, and as far as I know it's not in busybox at all. It's part of the...

Re: What happend With all the great threads in off topic?

Personally, while I pay attention so little that I wouldn't even notice when most things disappear, I find pruning of threads undesirable. Personally I don't support the removal of any post or thread...

Re: R&D Mode Control [CLI version]

As a bit of advice to people doing this, if you do, remember to edit, erm, I think it was /sbin/preinit, to disable the keyboard flashing - or not, if you like it, but battery life will suffer,...

Re: R&D Mode Control [CLI version]

So today I saved myself a lot of frustration and bootlooping with this, verifying that there are corner cases where you absolutely need to alter R&D mode flags from inside very early boot.

See,...

Re: [Announce] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

Thanks! I checked them within the first 24 hours after you posted that, I've just not had time to respond or address them (I don't 100% agree with the way one or two of them were done so I need to do...

Re: [Announce] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

The short answer is yes for some, not-yet for most.

The long answer requires a quick explanation of how Debian packages work as far as 'depends' and 'provides' fields go.

Basically, when you...

Re: [Announce] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

Here's your problem:

printf '%-16s%-12s0 0 100644 %-10s`\n' $1 $timestamp $size >> $deb
For some reason, whatever way you got the fkdep script, the white space got collapsed. The fields are...

Re: [WIP] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

peterleinchen:

I have just tested on my absolutely-stock N900, and no errors about bad file magic as well. I went to the github repo link, clicked on the file, clicked the 'Raw', and saved the...

Re: Yet Another Encryption Question

I THINK, but don't quote me on this, it's also supported in the CSSU-included kernel (which I'm pretty sure IS kernel-power), so if you're running the CSSU, then you don't even need to go out of your...

Re: [WIP] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

Carrying this post in from the Busybox thread where this started:

Odd, I just tested your exact usecase, works for me with dpkg -i, dpkg -x, and dpkg -e. (Generated the fkdep-adduser.deb twice...

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

Yeah I was hoping it wasn't going to have any further discussion needed, but I see it didn't work for you so that didn't happen. So, agreed: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=92653

[Announce] fkdep - commandline script to fake dependencies

Over the years I have run into many packages that insist that they need package X or Y when I don't want it installed, and am fairly confident that what they claim to depend on, I don't need to use....

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Just out of curiosity, what's the very rough and obviously subject to change estimate for when prototypes and final devices are expected to be done? Are we looking at 3 months, 6 months, a year,...

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

So it turned out that the 'ar' 'common' format, which is what 'deb' files are, is trivial. It's essentially all of the files concatenated, with some metadata prepended to each file.

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

Actually, it looks like we have 'dpkg-deb' included in the stock N900.

Aaand the results are in, I can build a package with it (dpkg-deb, using a directory populated by my script) that it will...

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

Damn it. Well, I suppose I COULD re-implement the relevant archiving compression algorithms in the shell... But that's just too much agony. Still, I for one would welcome one dependency if it let me...

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

Your reasoning, guys, is largely sound and I can't say I disagree all that much. In the long run I believe in choice first and convenience second, but sufficiently large convenience overrides...

Re: [Announce] Enhanced BusyBox package

Hey, would it be unreasonable to add a "provides: less" or something along those lines to the packaging for busybox power, including all of the other utilities that busybox provides? Because I'm...

Re: [WIP] Producing Qwerty OtherHalf --pre-ordering started! --order counter:22

In my book the ideal thing in the long run is that it works with xkb (or some equivalent if SailfishOS isn't using X, I don't pay attention to these things anymore... even if it takes ripping apart...

Re: [Pre-Pre-Pre Announce]Black Aluminium replacement body & backcover for N900

Not that I want to speak for Estel, but I asked him about situation recently, and he said he's been trying out different anodizing shops. Apparently the first one wasn't up to the level of quality he...

Re: How many of you still use N900 as main phone?

I lost (metaphorically) my third N900 a little over a month ago. I've been using an N9 since then for calls, texts, and mobile browsing. Meanwhile I still use N900 for all computery things. I'm...

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Absolutely. My point is I'm pretty sure that if you start at 'less', and add randomizing IMEI, you will not get substantially (or even noticeably) closer to 'more'. In fact, your efforts may even...
