Re: Gemini PDA (the return of the Psion Series 5MX)

Man, please stop teasing me. I had to spend a lot of money on new glasses just last week, I really cannot afford a new toy.

Re: Ok, I've already decided. I want to buy a Jolla 1. Does anyone sell one?

You've committed the cardinal sin, nthn. Cue the usual , "it's open, do it yourself" :D

Re: Nokia N900 as external usb soundcard.

Dunno, but it can work as a DLNA client. Have you considered that option?

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Like that of the Linux kernel?[/QUOTE]

Or Sailfish system updates?

Sorry, it was impossible to resist. It is an age-old bugbear of mine :)

Re: Purism Librem Phone

You are right. Adroid, Sailfish, Maemo etc are designed specifically for mobiles and have the size of UI controls modified to be usable comfortably. Then they can use a normal, 1:1 pixel mapping for...

Re: Purism Librem Phone

Yes, sulu, but would you call desktop UI on the N900 "usable"?

Maemo uses text size from 40 upwards. Buttons 60 pixels high (I do not remember the exact details but I do not think I am too far...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

Thank you, much appreciated. Really.

Also, hence my apology. It was not meant to be a broadside. I could sense that I was not getting my point across and was just trying harder. Perhaps too hard....

Re: Purism Librem Phone

In layman terms, a zoom in.

Given the screen size and resolution, UI controls such as buttons, edit boxes, menu and description text etc would be unreadable. For example you would end up with 1mm...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

I am sorry, sulu, if I misunderstood or, worse, offended you. The way I see it, there were a few pages in this thread filled with:

You: "How can you be sure that [something or other] does what...

Re: Ok, I've already decided. I want to buy a Jolla 1. Does anyone sell one?

Still, someone, somewhere, at some point, gave a lot of money to Sony.

Re: Ok, I've already decided. I want to buy a Jolla 1. Does anyone sell one?

I can think of at least two reasons:
1. He/she/it already has (https://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1546980#post1546980) an Xperia X
2. He/she/it would prefer something with a better support...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

This trend is not unique to Microsoft, though. Gone are the times when companies at least pretended to care about making things better/easier/more convenient for the customer. Now all they do is make...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

There are surprisingly many of them. I lost count of how many times someone wanted to keep in touch with me via Facetime.

I: "Isn't Facetime Apple specific? Your preference for Facetime limits...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

It's hopeless, juiceme. You can only have a dialogue with people who are willing to listen.

I never disputed the (theoretical) benefits of open source. Only the claim that those benefits are...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

We'll just have to agree to disagree, sulu. Closed or open, for all intents and purposes, they are both equally closed to me. I, personally, will never be able to review all the millions of lines of...

Re: (Again???) Turing Space Industries

That sounds familiar.

"Why don't you buy me flowers/take me to dinner?"
"Does my bum look big in this?"
"Listen to me!"

Re: The new QWERTY device project

Very few. Don't you get it? That is exactly the point!!!

Mind you, I do not believe for a single second that customers "do not want" a pointing device. Or a keyboard. Or a device the size they can...

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

Indeed. And the corporations use that model because they can. Because they now have the tool. It is called, "the internet". The internet has killed the future.

Re: Last straw with me and continuing with Windows

How do I know that any code does what it says and nothing else? Regardless of who wrote it and how open it is?

"The code is open, you can check it."

I know I can. But I have neither the time...

Re: The new QWERTY device project

This is where we disagree. The lack of ability to position the cursor precisely is IMO the main drawback of all current "smart" phones. Keep in mind that this is not just for hitting random buttons...

Re: Who is still interested in Neo900?

That's too harsh. I would use the phrase, "overly optimistic". The 12 (actually, now 13) just do not believe it would ever come to that.

As I admitted before, the poll has many holes in it and...

Re: [Announce] Native offline maps: OSM Scout Server

What's wrong with the name? OK, it's not very obvious and it took me a while to figure out that this is something I need but now I quite like it.
