Your second sentence suggests your first question requires no answer. If you don't know what "European" means in a context where the UK is mentioned separately I'm not going to help you out.

Yes but my thinking is that they diverted units to the US market late in the game. The UK market has experienced quite a number of unexplained delays while the US market got units early.

I could be mistaken but I believe the European one has a different keyboard but the US and UK has the same one. If so it might explain the chronic shortage in the UK.

Nokia wants to capture as much of the smartphone market as it can. The US market is where the iPhone and Android dominate so while Europeans might wait US consumers have a lot of choice.

My Amazon UK order just got pushed to December 16th as well.

I think it's pretty likely they won't ship before Jan 2010, that would be 5 months after the announcement of the N900 and 3 months...

Wow that thread is pretty shocking to me. It looks like Nokia has serious quality control issues across all of its products.

I'm not a business expert but as far as I know Nokia operates on the basis of its products being "for" as many people with money to spend as possible.

Of the last I'd say critical features are:

-Portrait mode
-Menu Icon reordering
-Quick scrolling

The others are all nice and some users will like them but the lack of the above three really...

Here's a nice idea - how about we consider it reasonable for people to expect a non-half baked product and a timely release for something costing €500+?

According to this (http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=113198) you can contact Skype and get your contacts restored.

For google talk and MSN they might all still be in your address list.

Odds are the way you turn on the phone makes no impact.

What's been suggested is that if you plug the phone into the mains and let it charge before it turning it on you might avoid it.

If what people are saying about the driver not loading then it's fairly unforgivable for those units to have even made it out of the factory. Failures that can be detected in software are the easiest...

I'm seriously thinking of cancelling as well. It's becoming obvious that it's foolish to purchase a Nokia product before its track record for stability is established.

Expansys UK are now showing 9th of December for the N900 and play.com 31st of December.

Should be interesting to see what happens. It could be the only way to get this thing before Christmas is...

Amazon UK currently have a dispatch estimate for the 29th-30th so unless their date gets pushed out neither Nokia UK nor MPD are offering much of an advantage.
