BTRFS was a stupid choice, and gives more troubles than it solves problems.

you do not need to do that manually. the only you need is to keep your phone on charger at night, and it will balance automatically when needed.

If you are on a recent enough Sailfish version, you can try playing with the btrfs-balancer command, e.g. "btrfs-balancer balance" (as root...).

Otherwise, look up the older balancing instructions...

For me the issue is outdated libraries, plain and simple. It is preventing ports, making others far more difficult and causing me to have to test a number of different work arounds for each package....

Maemo is outdated to say the least.
We have an ancient kernel (with lots of backports), a glibc from the stone age and lots of other very old stuff.
On top of that the repros are a prime example of...
