Oh man, thanks a bunch! Changing the setting of speex-fixed from speex-fixed-2 to speex-fixed-10 makes the n900 sound output quality a m a z i n g.
I'm quite an audiophile when it comes to music...

How can I manually improve the quality of sound output ie. by edditing some config file or so, with the cost of increased CPU usage, for example? What I need to do to achieve that? Any help?

Thanks a bunch! Instead of converting the script file on the device I used online dos2unix converter and transferred the file again onto the device - the script worked then :)
