Re: 770 Virtual Memory - increase beyond 64MB?

Swapping is BAD, MMC cards only transfer 7MB/sec, so if you are swapping lots of data, the N770 will run slowly.

This is not a N770 issue, or a linux issue, it is a basic computing issue, just as...

Re: Bypassing WEP Security?

Whilst cracking WEP may be fun, doing it may be illegal, and can get the perpetrator into all sorts of legal issues ( read prison ).

If I found someone trying to break into my car, I would take a...

Re: Can I access media on a NAS?

I see no reason why not.

I am aware of plenty of desktop NAS solutions that deliver a NT server type share (CIFS), the bigger business type devices deliver CIFS and NFS, I don't think the cheapo...

Re: Request for python advice

You don't need to faff around in the sandbox to do python dev, just do it on your favourite linux surface, using glade.

I found the difficult thing was getting my head around the callbacks they...

iball,

I think you miss the point,

You and I are clearly committed geeks, and I agree that it is cool being able to hack perl and python whilst stood up at the back of a bus, but there is...

Re: N800 as an underpowered toy

I have owned a Palm Tungsten for 4 years or so, the case is falling to bits, the second battery is on it's last legs and the screen is well scuffed.

The included software for browsing and reading...

Re: Path to current desktop bg in python

it's /home/user/.osso/hildon-home/hildon_home_bg_user.png

so from python you can copy a new image to that location, but it will probably not be displayed until you log out/in - you can try via a...

Re: how best to collect data from the usb port

The data card is a serial device, so I will use a serial to usb converter.

PYusb looks promising, but does not appear to have been ported to either N770 or N800, so if there is someone out there...

Re: Trying to come up with a serial port...

I kinda figure that these USB to serial devices have a chip in them that identifies them as a USB serial device, now if the device identies itself as a mass storage device, then the kernel will know...

Re: how best to collect data from the usb port

When I originally posted, I did not realise Perl was in the Maemo 2.0 build - that makes things a bit easier. Although I have no appetite to install scratch box so that I can compile the CPAN...

Re: Help - 770 Freeze / Reboot problem

almost certainly you have installed something that is gobbling memory, it's probably not a hardware problem.

I would go for a re-flash, cannot do any harm as the device is already screwed.
