The "normal" (meaning the standard coming out of package) is two short blue flashes, not one. Led pattern editor mentioned earlier is a good solution to this.

It is hardware issue. I had the same and got it fixed just to get broken again. Finally I got phone replaced and sound is fine now.

I think it has something to do with speaker cable (thin film)....
